How we got started:

Maser has had a TF 1/7 Scale P-39 Airacobra kit for many years sitting on a top shelf in his shop. Although I have tried to obtain it a couple of times over the last several years, he has refused to part with it, so enter plan B.

RPRCBuilder and I were talking about his next project, and since I will be continuing his grandsons flight instruction along with the Talimena Kidd this season, we decided on the P-39 being a great subject and a tricycle gear warbird.

Maser provided the plans and the instruction book and traced all his parts for us to cut a couple of short kits from. We will be fabricating our own Cowls, Canopies, and other non-wood parts to complete the projects.

As you can see, RPRCBuilder has finished cutting the two short kits. I am sure as in the past; he will have these planes framed up before I know it. I will keep the thread updated as things progress.

Sign me up. I built a Bert bake 1/4 scale several years ago, and am gathering all the goodies to do a 1/5 Pepino. Hope to start it soon.

I'd like to join the Airacobra Brotherhood. I built a TF P-39 when they first came out in the 70's I built a House of Balsa .049 powered r/c P-39 that I still have. Then a Francis P-39 fiberglass was next. A EZ P-39 was in the stable. I have another TF Airacobra in primer, a Stafford P-39 kit that is started, and a ESM P-39 to be built next. Oh, I just started a P-63 Kingcobra for fun. I love the Bell aircraft.

the construction article was in the Jan 2014 Model Aviation magazine. We ordered the plans and have started framing up. It has a 58" wingspan. The only other plans that I know of for a P-63 are Palmer 92" span.

TF 1/7 Scale Airacobra builds update:

RPRCBuilder has started framing up one of the horz stabs. Also since we were unable to order canopies from TF, we desided to learn to vacuum form. Maser has a canopy for his kit, so we will pull a plug from it. RPRC and I built a vacuum box and are ready to start learning. Heck, a 4x8 sheet of .030 lexan was only $26.00, so I have plenty to learn on.

Just pulled the canopy plug yesterday. Next on the to do list is to learn how to vacuum pull a canopy and we will be okay.

If you get some good pulls, and want to sell some, I would be interested in purchasing one.
