Try Lenny at Shindin Machine for Spitfire retracts. He offers them for the 1/5.5 scale Brian Taylor airplane which, i imagine, should be right on the money for the same size H9 ARF.

Thanks, Scott.
=======

June 28, warbird flyin at Ohio river view rc club in Elizabeth, Indiana.
Miles: 150.
What a wonderful facility. Besides the 800' perfectly paved runway is the grass runway next to it, PLUS, each end of the runway has another football length of runway grass giving a total 1400' runway. First club that I've been to where a sprinkler system is installed! The masters is being held there, this year. The flight line has five very nice, raised areas for each pilot. And no trees. The pit area has two very nicely finished (sided) open sided covers. Electricity is in the pit area. A power plant 1.5 miles away with 300' smoke stacks provides nice confirmation of which way the wind is blowing.

My three comrades and I got there on Friday and had a great time. Paul brought his grill and everyone else brought food, etc for cooking. Great hamburgers with bacon Friday night and egg mcmuffins with bacon for Saturday morning. Paul brought a flat screen TV and we watched a movie Friday night.

pictures:
Ron's nosen P-51 with a DA-85.
Paul's 1/2 scale fokker and moki powered WW I.
Joe's C-130 that drops paratroupers.

We're always looking for more people at the Lake Almanor, Ca float fly. Just got back from this years (June 21-28), and there were three of us. A lot of people cancelled because of drought conditions, but the lakes were plenty full for flying, boating, and fishing. The next one is June 20-27 2015. Lake Almanor is right next to the town of Chester, Ca., and there are cabins and camping and a couple hotel rooms. We always stay at North Shore Campground... (http://www.northshorecampground.com/)...They have great RV hook ups and cabins, and is actually right on the lake. We heard rumor this year that a land strip was being constructed at Canyondam, which will be great.

Ron with his Ziroli C-47.
At noon, CD John paying tribute to a WW II pilot who flew planes for 70 years.
Paul and I got a couple plaques for our planes: Pilots selected the P-47 for best WW II and the Fokker for best WW I.
The two Joe's flying.
Ron with his C-47 and I with my C-45 twin beechcraft did some great formation flying.
We were yanking and banking and very close to each other: looked like we had been doing it for years!

ps: a real pain when the software doesn't load the thumbnail pictures and they have to be deleted and re-loaded.

Chad and vertical:
Thanks for the info on retracts but I've decided to sell it, instead. With my present collection of planes, I doubt if I would fly this plane very much.

Skuttlebutt is Bob is selling BVM.

A draw bridge. The road section can be raised and lowered to clear boat traffic.

I've only seen it in the raised position so it may not be used any more by the railroad.
Most of them were made in the late 1800's and early 1900 hundreds.

Here's a video of a cantilever bridge in action:

It is still used by the Louisville and Indiana Railroad line. I have seen train traffic on it and the rails are not rusted. It is one of 2 railroad bridges used in the area, the other being pictured in the 6th photo of the set.

July 5, Giant scale flyin at TORCS in Quincy, Ohio.
Miles: 76
Another private full size, all grass, runway. The property changed ownership but, fortunately, the new owner allowed the club to remain there as he has a plane and they cut the grass. A very nice, clear day with low winds. The last few days have been unusual in that the night temps have been in the 50's so it's been more like spring temps. Will be back into the 60's/80's after today.
Had a good time putting in 5 flights and meeting a couple new pilots. One was flying his 'flip flopper' but he was an engineer where they make full size props and the conversation was interesting on how the props are made and changes in technology that have been made.
I liked how he flew his 'flip flopper' as he flew the plane at a very scale speed when doing his flying routine: seems like that would be much more difficult to do, and maintain flight consistency, than a full speed routine. He did a vertical rolling loop which I'd never seen before. Lunch was part of the landing fee and they made great burgers (no 'brickets').
Jim Martin, a fellow pilot from one of my clubs, was there.

Americana:
Being July 4th weekend, small towns like to put out lots of american flags along 'Main' street.
The cream colored building appears to be a 50's gas station still being used as an auto repair business.
The route to the field was quicker via back roads versus the interstate highways. Besides, the 'back road' is almost a straight arrow to the site plus the road is 'semi truck' wide, being part of the old 'highway' system before interstates were built.
Right at the back of the club's field was a local, private railroad. 'Private', being track that serves local industry has, for the most part, been dropped a long time ago by the major railroads. Small enterprisers, looking to run a railroad, bought the abandoned track and make a profit, serving small industries. The small railroads have just a hand full of employees where they all do multiple jobs (including the CEO working right along side the employee) instead of just one dedicated job, making it much easier to make a profit. The old American way of doing business: you do what ever is necessary to get the job done for the customer (good and timely service instead of just a cheap price). There are quite a few of these across the USA.

Just found this web site of great pictures taken at last year's Elkhart flyin. Didn't see them posted anywhere else so I thought I'd list the site, here. There are a ton of pictures listed for each of the three days of the event.

Picture #39 in that set is, I'm pretty sure, Chuck Hamilton's absolutely magnificent SBD Dauntless. What a spectacular picture of one of the finest scale models I've ever seen. Awesome!

Sam,

Are you bringing your SBD to Lima later this month?

Ikerus,
It looks like you have a large, long field so I was thinking of bringing the 110" F4U and P-47 along with the C-45 twin beechcraft. I can only bring three planes when the P-47 and F4U go but I could sub the SBD for the C-45. I assume this is the LARKS field?

Yes it is the LARKS field. The C45 is fine, I am looking at starting a Dauntless this winter so I was wanting to see yours. But when your up here I do have another question for you.
