July 12-13, Big bird flyin at Celina, Ohio
Miles: 105
Another all grass, wide and about 800' long, located at the back of a county park. The 'locals' showed up in good numbers to watch the show.
The crop duster has a turbine.
A very nicely scratch built Jenny.

July 18-19, Ohio Dawn patrol at Harrison, Ohio.
Miles: 40
Great field, great people, great food, great time.
A very nice all grass, double runway field with no houses around. In a flood zone so no worry about development which the club has owned for 50 some years.
Trees in the pit area to keep cool.
Unusual weather for July with temps in the 50's to 70's: good flying and sleeping weather. Next week we'll be back to the 60's/80's.
45 pilots from as far away as Long Island, Virginia, Alabama and Florida. Lots of great looking airplanes, the bulk of them 1/3 scale. Great food done by Jeff and Joe with pancakes for breakfast, burgers/brotts for lunch and variety for evening of cheese/ham, tacos and a whole roasted pig.
The flyin, officially, started on Friday but the bulk of the pilots were there by Thursday.

ps: it would be nice if the web's software allowed multiple posts of pictures without having to get out of the thread before posting more pictures, as the 2nd or 3rd post will not show the pictures as they have to be deleted and re-posted.

Glad you were able to make it for the LARKS fly in, and at least the weather held for most of the day. Congrats on winning the 50/50 raffle and I'll let you know if we find the missing wheel out in the bean field.

July 26, Giant scale flyin at LARKS west of Lima, Ohio
miles: 110.
Another nice all grass, about 800' long, runway leased from the local farmer. All farm land with no trees. As with a previous club, a railroad track ran next to the field.
My first time at this field and enjoyed meeting some new pilots.
Ben,
The weather didn't hold up too well going home as I ran into a hail storm. I appreciate it on letting me know if you find my lost wheel.

Americana:
At least in Ohio, the farmers crops are growing like weeds, cool weather and lots of rain.
It appears some farmers are using the 'last century' technology wind mills as I saw three operating ones.
Quite a few railroad crossing around Lima: it was once the site of one of the major builders of railroad steam engines. The steam engine made the expansion and use of America for 150 years. When diesels began to appear in the 40's, the steam manufacturers didn't embrace it, so they went out of business. EMD, a division created by General Motors, jumped on board with making diesels and dominated the business for decades.
A large percentage of the homes in rural America are the typical ranch home. Very popular in the 50's and 60's among post WW II baby boomers.
Going home, it felt like armageddon, as I experience the worst hailstorm that I can remember. Just about all vehicles stopped along the side of the highway, most trying to stop under overpasses. I kept going, although only about 30 MPH, figuring, the vectored force going forward reduces the vectored force of the hail coming straight down, thus making any dents on my vehicle less severe. I still have several very light dings on the hood but I think they would have been much worse, stopping in the open.
At 3:30 in the afternoon, it felt more like 9:30 in the evening.
