ESM - P-51B "Bald Eagle" Need Selection Help - Retract Brand, Model & Degree's.....
Hi Guys,
I am looking to get the correct retracts for the ESM P-51B- Bald Eagle. I read a thread that the (Sierra ESM P-51B/D Retracts) which sold at $139.00, but I guess that’s the original price from a few years ago, the threads a few years old.
I believe they are the same retracts but now they are going for $315.00. I am assuming that these would be a good choice, however I need to consider the Robart and the Spring Air retracts then in that price range.
I like the retracts with the Spring Down / Air Up feature. I see that both Robart & Spring Air both make a retract with this feature.
Spring Air: 403, 403S, 404T, 703 & 702 Series the Slimline Series.
Robart: 530, 550 & 630 Series
I have a few Questions:
Since I have seen weight ranges for this plane come in from 13 lbs to 18 lbs. The weight estimate on my plane so far is a little under 16 lbs based on using an OS Max 1.20 AX engine & standard radio gear. Should I be looking at the retract ranges for this planes on the Robart web site in the (8 lbs to 18 lbs) or in the (12 lbs to 24 lbs) range?
Since there is a bit of overlap with the weight ranges on the Robart web site, I was wondering what you guys would recommend. Now keep in mind I think the plane will come in around 16 lbs, would it be better to go with the (12 lbs to 24 lbs) range or can I get away with any choice from (8 lbs to 18 lbs) range choice for retracts? I would think that a slimline style mount would be easier to install due to the size of the mount.
I understand that normally Mustangs call for an 85 degree strut but there is no factory recommendation stating the correct size retracts for this plane anywhere in the manual or on any web site. Based on that, I read in a thread that the plane will have a better scale like stance utilizing 90 degree retracts, I guess due to the amount of Dihedral. Can anyone please confirm this? I cannot find this on any web sites that sells the plane, VQ Warbirds or Troy Built Models only in a thread I read here.
Thanks
Ed
