Mighty fine looking ship you've got there, FC.

No idea what I'll end up going with for mine.

There's a lot of building to be done, so I hope I can get some tips from those who have already been down this road

What engine/s would suit this beast?

I have a soft spot for that 4-stroke sound.

Ideally, I'd love one of those 3-cyl Kolm motors... but they're a bit out of my price-range just now.

Any suggestions?

a lot of guys are using the G62. The downside of that engine is the carb sticks out the side but you have plenty of power. How big is the KOLM?

They start at 100 and 135cc (twin inline), and go the 3-cyl inline at 150 and 200cc.

the 2 cylinder looks underpowered but may be right powered for the Byron.....will it physically fit in a Byron?

Good question. Looks doable. 9 HP - WOW for a Byron.

Solo props are costly but beautifull. Still less costly than a byrons setup.

Yes - I saw that the original Byron drive-train uses some sort of 'reduction drive' (?) or something.

What's that all about?

It is geared so a smaller engine will power a larger plane with an adjustable four blade prop. WIth modern motors there is no reason to use exept for nostalgia.

So a direct drive with a modern donk should do the trick?

Still can't decide what powerplant to go for - I'd like something with a decent sound, and of course good reliable performance...

just to clarify, the 4 blade was not adjustable on the byro-drive and it was kind of underpowered. The blades would flex at full power. You could go wih a larger motor o turn a 4 blade but I am guessing i wouldnt fit fully, might have problems wih cooling etc. I seen i done with the TFGS P47 but there is room in he cowl.......

Byron P-51 Mustang

Elevator 1" up and 1" down

Aileron 1/2" up and 1/2" down

Rudder- "all you can get"....especially with the reduction drive installed.

The manual does not list flap travel. I use 15* and 30* on mine.

CG is 5 1/2" from leading edge of wing at the center section.

Default Direct drive on Byron P-51 Mustang

I see that the original Byrondrive has a lot of right angel on the motor/propeller.
I have a plan to change motor to direct drive 2 blade, But do I mont it in the same angle as the original Byron was?

When you say "the same angle", do you mean right prop + down prop compensation?

Yes, rignt and down.
When I mount the new engine (MVVS 58) in the same angle as the original was it looks strange...
But the angle is also at the end of fuselange toward spinner, so its ment to be that way. The backplate of my spinner is exactly in the same angle.
