Yes.... Thank you for those pics!!! I am really disapointed with the coverage of warbirds at Joe Nall. Does anyone know why the manual was removed online at Horizons site?

I didn't save a copy of the manual. However, it seemed to me and it could be just me that some of the images contained in it were kinda fuzzy and not real clear?

Well, since there's none released yet, nobody else has any to photograph or video.

Here Horizon's video from last week. Not a lot of shots of the Mustang, but they had a pair flying with a few Corsairs. If in a hurry, scroll to 1:50 to see Mustang

why do these guys add that stupid music to the videos - half of what you enjoy is the engine noise but they just dont get it.

What is up with Horizon Hobby? When did this airplane show up on their website; six weeks ago? Why the heck do you broadcast a new airplane and then have it out of stock for the first two months? Speaking of out of stock, do they have any Warbirds in stock? It seems the Blue nose P-51 and old Spitfire stayed in stock for about two weeks and now are both out of stock again. The Corsair and Spitfire have been out of stock for a while. Aren't these supposed to be new "flagship" type airplanes for them? Who the heck is running the show there anyways?

Guess I'll go back to Tower where all the Top Flight birds are IN STOCK and if not, they plainly post an expected date.

Some days I feel like I'm taking crazy pills. I don't know why I care, I can't afford the darn retracts anyways.

Play the stinking music, keep em out of stock, who cares? I'm going flying...

You must be new to the hobby... They all do the same. Great Planes, Top Flite, you name them etc. When the TF FW came out it was advertised long time before being available, the Zero was not instantly available either. Heck, look at the giant Citabria from Great Planes, and you will see how much the wait is for that one... But of course comparing TF P-51 to this one is like comparing pears to apples... They are in a different league.

I dont care what brand it is they all do the same thing. Announce a product way in advance, string customers along, then the product arrives in limited quantities.
This industry suffers from poor marketing plans/execution and then products are dropped because they dont sell themselves. I know first hand because Ive worked in this industry for 10yrs. Unless your one of the owners or upper management any talk of this kind is considered thinking above your pay grade.

Anyways....

You are absolutely right in that they all do the same. It is the way they (the industry) operate. No difference from one to the other (Great Planes, Horizon, TF, etc.) IN their defense, i like to know ahead of time when a new model is coming out (or expected to be released). Let's say I always wanted a 1/4 scale Snipe. Since I know that this fall Balsa USA is coming out with the kit, I might decide to wait.
Same thing with this P-51.
Eons ago I needed a new printer for my office and I bought the HP III. At the time (well over a decade ago) it was over $1,000, 45 days later the HP IV came out! Had I known I would have waited... Same thing with the models. Information is power.

Gerry

I'll record my kids running around with weedwackers, and dub that audio in.....then we can all get the full experience. If it's not a Merlin, who cares

Now if it sounds like this, I am totally with ya on this one!

I like the look of it, I'll buy it. I am currently flying a TF "B" model with a homemade conversion to electric at 29 lbs. I would love to have a little more wing area to lift the batteries although it seems to fly just fine.

Ed,
I'm not one to engage in online pissing contests. If you want to whine have at it. If I want to comment ill do the same.
by the way the guy with the Ego is the one who insists because they didn't do it his way it must be wrong

Kolm has the dimensions posted on their web site. You might it a look to see if it fits. I believe the plane they have is a comp arf. So a bit longer than horizons and structurally different.

There are two versions of the Kolm IL100, long shaft and short. I have been unable to download specs. from their website but I think the short shaft engine will fit the Top Flite P 51 if the firewall is modified by moving the mounting structure behind the firewall. (build a box inside the tank area). I always move the tank back so the center of the tank is on the CG. This eliminates the nose over tendency P 51 AC have with a full tank up behind the firewall. I remove the bottom nose sheeting(easy to do as the glue the manufacturer uses has little or no holding power. The liteply structure can be removed with careful work with a razor saw and be reused. You need to reinforce the firewall with hardwood triangle stock and the front cabin bulkhead with balsa, and also the aft cabin bulkhead with balsa to prevent catastrophic in-flight failures that I have actually experienced. As you close the bottom nose up, build a cooling duct by cutting a 1" deep rectangular hole 3" wide and ramping it back to the sub bulkhead. this will exhaust cyl. head air and is a good place to route ex. pipes.
The H9 P 51 is a little larger so it would make it easier to accomodate an engine like the Kolm IL100. I considered doing this with the ZDZ and 3W inline twins. Instead I went electric with a Benedini sound system and I really enjoyed the realistic sound and the brushless motor's ability to swing 26-15 props. and go straight up and do vertical rolls. My 2nd TF P 51 had a ZDZ 80 and incredible performance but the power pulse was excessive(the wing and stab tips were a blur on landing) so I went back to my faithful DA 50 and dreams of a smoother motor that could turn a scale prop diameter. I noted discussion on the TF p 51 forum from a guy that was using the same brushless motor(Rim Fire 65cc) I have, using the Zinger 4 blade spinner and prop claiming good results. This will be my next step. I am getting 100mph top speed with my E setup which is faster than scale speed but slower than the 120+ I get with the DA 50 and a 22-12 Graupner prop. I am running my plane on 12s battery packs which limits RPM with the 160kv of the motor. As soon as I can find a reasonably priced esc that can handle 14s packs the top speed will go up. I know this is a long winded discussion of a different plane but I feel that it directly applies to the new H-9 P 51 when it arrives. And I hate the chain saw sound of current 2 strokes and the 4 strokes are only slightly better(quieter but still not a MERLIN). Incidentally, I tried the Rim Fire 50cc motor and it was faster with small props but ran excessively hot. I see a few comments from guys trying to rain on our P 51 parade but the large number of posts on a plane not yet available points to a lot of interest in a plane more than 70 yrs. old.
Steve.
