If you had a choice what would get Aeroworks 50cc 86in P51 or the Hangar 9 P51 60cc 89in

Thanks

In spite of the known deficiencies with all 3 of these planes my choice is the one with the closest to scale outline-The Hanger Nine plane. The problems that others try to make such a big deal about can all be solved and the time and effort is still less than building a kit, and I have built far more kits than ARF planes. And outfitting a kit with all the necessary items it takes to complete one is usually more expensive than opening a box and finding most of it right there.

Aeroworks all the way. The quality, covering, and finish don't even compare.

Any body else, I am buying my birthday gift to myself today. I tried to buy a 150in 35% Pilot Columbia 400 but they stopped making it,go figure. Bit I always have room for another warbird. I was going to get another 33% Hangar9 Pawnee. The first one I purchased was $1,100 now they are $1350. Not. I would go $1,100 free shipping. They can keep it at $1350

Call Jeff or Rocco at Aeroworks. You won't be sorry because they designed the plane around a no brainer engine...... the DA-50. Just check to see if you can use a different set of retracts. The aeroworks retracts are proprietary
and they don't offer parts so you have to buy the whole set if you break one. Better to use Spring Air or Sierra here IMO....

I had an Aeroworks P-51. Very high quality build and hardware was second to none. The retracts, however, are not useable. They appear to be copies of the Robart Giant P-51 retracts. A DLE-55 (side exhaust) with the JTEC muffler made for the P-51 is a great option with very little cowl mods. The fact that you'll have to give Robart another $300 or so for the replacement gear makes this one a bit expensive, but you won't be disappointed with the quality. Another note: AW calls for ($100) servos that are WAY overkill for this aircraft. It isn't a 3D machine, and doesn't need 200 oz/in coreless digital servos. My opinion, but you can save some scratch with HITEC 645MG's, or equivalent.

Can you get an AW Mustang without the gear?

I flew helicopters for 15 + years so I am use to $100+ servos. I would agree 200oz IMHO is a over kill. I just did the math and at 100mph with the cord and lenght of their control surface's a 100oz servo will work just fine.

I do like spring air retracts compared to the other retracts. I still don't like electric retracts. Maybe some day when I come across a set that I can trust.

Hi. Just joining this thread. I looked at both the AW and H9 fairly close and went with the H9 P-51 for the following reasons. H9 is not a single wing like the AW so easy for me to store. Did not like what I was hearing about the landing gear on AW and this was mentioned in the last few posts. The H9 kit is about 40% cheaper shipped to the door ($850 vs. $1200) even for no retracts in both cases. I have several AW 3D planes and love them. High quality all the way around and built tough. I received my H9 P-51 this week and overall I am happy with the quality. Could the covering job be better, yes, I agree with some of the complaints around that. But overall, I am happy with what I see in this ARF.

Wow! $800 delta for AW retracts. I guess that's about right if it's the mains and tail wheel plus air support. How about Sierra retracts for this bird?

Sierra isn't cheap, however the quality is second to none. You won't be dissatisfied with the product. Besides, there service and quality is worth it! IMO....... of course.

I am new to this size aircraft with retracts. Clearly a big part of the investment. Seems like $500 and up when you include Mains and Tail wheel with all hardware, etc. Need to shop around for a deal.

FYI - here's a link to the AW P-51 thread http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/aero...ks-p-51-a.html

Probably lots of great info on the AW airframe, retracts issues, and more...have fun!

Getting back to the build on the H9 P-51, does anyone have any data points on how much weight I will likely need to put up front to balance if I stay inline with the build plans (no significant options)? I am planning at this point to put a DLE 55RA as I am more focused on not cutting the cow and having a clean fit.

The Eflight retracts for H9 Mustang are things of beauty. Well worth the price. After my friend with an AW p51 saw the Eflight gear he ordered a set from our LHS for $429.00.....he was very happy.

Hi.

Let me ask it a different way: Has anyone successfully set up the gear and doors with the included controller and can help me out with mine?

YellowAircraft,
What kind or brand of controller is it? I have worked with a couple of controllers in the past. I still have a Jomar unit that worked every time.

Hi,

It's the E-Flite one designed for this plane. All stock gear.
