landing gear retract speed
I flew as rear pilot in the Collings Foundation's P 51 C 2 weeks ago. From the time he hit the switch to gear thump in the wings and tail and green lights on the instrument panel was about 3-4 seconds. I could not hear the main doors close but I assume that the green indication meant they had closed. My electric gears take 10 seconds up or down and battery voltage only makes a 1/2 second difference going from 4.8 sec. to 9 volts. Programming a delay for scale retraction adds another second. My air powered retracts could be set at any speed you wanted.

I flew my TF GS B model today using both the Varioprop 4 blade set at 20 inches pitch and the Zinger 22-16 4 blade. The varioprop briefly reached 6100rpm on a down wind pass at 100 feet that looked pretty fast. The prop chart estimates that at 6140rpm it may have reached 125 mph. The Rimfire 65cc motor is still over speeding the VP. The Zinger 4 blade generally peaked between 5000 and 5400rpm with chart speeds at 85-90 mph. Current draw was high at 145amps and ESC temp briefly got to 178f but generally ran at 145F. It was a hot day at close to 90f and no clouds.

This hobby is by definition a juvenile endeavor
Apparently this has already been done. Just not a good idea in the US. Guess I'll stick with the payload drop.

ok, sorry to all for non value added posts to this build thread. Enough of that for me.
On a build note, it looks like I am going to need to add 12 to 14 oz. of weight to the nose to get to a balanced CG. The Zenoah 62 engine they suggest on the website is probably close to 12 oz heavier then the DA 60 I am using. My total build weight is coming around 28 lbs prior to adding the nose weight. Not happy about adding more weight but have no choice.

I have had random issues with an inner gear door not closing in flight. They are few and far between and I can't find the culprit. Usually takes a couple gear cycles to get sealed up and then doesn't reoccur for quite a few flights.

Just put flight #16 on her. I'm a very happy camper. Powered by an EME 60 (best running engine I've ever had, so far). Level flight is in the 102-107mph range. Added 6oz to the nose and she flies very well balanced. It flew ok with no weight, but is solid as a rock with the 6oz in there.

I dont have have any rpm data as I don't have a tach. I should have rpm telemetry setup sometime next week and can get back with you. It's swinging a mejzlik 24x10th carbon fiber prop. Idle is phenomenal, will stay parked on the pavement, and performance is great so far.
I I had to order 25mm standoffs from McMaster-Carr and one washer. It leaves a 1-2mm spinner gap. I had to open up the center hole in the firewall for the throttle and choke arms to move freely.
I I have a dle-61 on a giant corsair and this engine idles much better, starts much easier, and performance is at least the same if not better.

Yes, I bought it because it looked like the same foot print as a da, and I knew horizon had flown with with a da, but didn't want to drop the cash on a da, since I had to buy a new radio as I ran out of channels on my dx9. Very impressed so far, we'll see how it holds up.

Mine is built up but the engine is remaining. I'm using DA60cc and Dave Brown spinner. I have problem with the wing joint it's very tight and not fiting flash. I don't know if any one had same issue. The plane is huge comparing to TF stang or any other brand. Can't wait to fly it. I hope any one has flying video of this beautiful bird.

I had to add about 20oz. to the nose to get to CG. With the DA-60 being light, cutting the muffler down, and the pilot in the seat at 8oz behind the CG it seemed to need extra weight. I'd rather be a bit heavy to the nose for the first flight too so I am balancing on the back of the manual range. My total weight is coming in at 29.3 lbs without fuel. I have 2 props. Starting with a Zoar 23x10 and have a mejzlik 23x8 EVO carbon fiber prop to try as well. No chance of maiden right now with snow coming down today (first day of spring) here in the northeast.

Do you also have the EME on-board starter? Can you share pics of the engine installation and cowl mods if any?
Cheers

I do not have the onboard starter (didn't think it would fit in the cowl); however it doesn't need it. It always pops in less than 10 flips and is running in 2-3 more. It was a bear trying to find a wrap-around muffler that would clear the firewall. Finally settled on the j'tec compact wraparound. Fits almost perfectly inside the cowl as well. I had to cut a little at the front corner and to clear the front muffler bolt.
