I have found that the FiberGlas Specialties P 51 B canopy that I have been using to change my TF GS D model ARF to a B model also fits the fuselage of the Hanger Nine 60cc P 51 D.

If anyone is looking to buy the Hangar 9 P-51 wheels, I've got a pair I'd like to sell...new and never used - $150 shipped.

What are the best options for a spinner? I tried HH's painted spinner. No joy! Maybe try a Tru-turn and a couple rattle cans of paint? Should not take too long to figure out the paint templates as I used to be in the sheet metal biz a long time ago.

I ordered one of these P-51s back in March. I ordered all the options that I wanted and went into the holding pattern. To date I only have a couple Spektrum servos that have not arrived. It appears maybe the JR and Spectrum divorce is slowing down delivery of Spektrum servos these days. May have to just get some HV Hitecs and be done with it.

I hate painting so I ordered the painted spinner. It came yesterday. The paint job looks nice a ways back from it. But you can feel the roughness and see the polishing that they did to partially smooth it out. I could live with that. But, there was no backplate. I would assume the edges of the backplate should be painted to match. I would even be willing to paint it as I could have done a better job myself. But there is nothing to paint.

Has anyone ever gotten a spinner w/o a backplate? If there was a picture on the HH website, and there was no backplate shown, I would not have ordered it. Lesson learned: These days you may not even get what you think you are paying for?

Call Horizon, my spinner had an appropriately painted backplate, I'm sure it was just a screw up, these happen occasionally and they are well known for taking care of CS issues.

I don't see a correlation between the Spektrum servos and the JR breakup.

As I understand it, JR and Spektrum were a little bit in-bread when it comes to servo making. I heard they are no longer in bed together. After waiting for a couple months for a couple servos, it is obvious that something got broken up. Just my personal observation/speculation.

I'll be calling HH tomorrow on the Spinner. Someone was not thinking when they packed the box. That Spinner alone was more expensive than any prop and spinner combination I have ever purchased for a Giant. For that price they should be throwing in a CF prop, let alone the backplate.

I think spektrum is in bed with Savox... Savox makes several of the spektrum servos. Savox are all out of stock now as well I have several back ordered... Spektrum sleeps around..

All done have two flights. Here are some facts. The programing instructions of the retract door control is not on one document. You need to get the door channels going into the controler from the plane instructions and then the retract positions from the retract instruction. The only type of retract servo that will work with the controler are digital servos that allow travel limits. Flight 1 the left door did not close. After many test in the pits retracts and doors working. I did adjust the clevis a little tighter on closing of the left door. Flight 2 results were the same door did not close. I am now adding a seperate battery and switch for the retracts that was suggester on this thread, hopfully this will solve the left door issue. I like the flight charactoristics but the outer wing to center wing fittment took a lot to get the gap fair. Redrilling the fiber glass tabs and sanding the wing tube entry, to allow the T&G to work from the outer wing rib into the center wing rib pocket. I think if Horizon fixed these few issues it is a great ARF.

I just read my post and wanted to provide clarification. I have the two elevator servos currently on back order and are new in the box. Horizon Hobby has them listed for $59.99 each and I will be happy to sell them for $50.00 each or $100 for the pair shipped.

call if interested.

After the dead stick landing on my maiden with only one gear down I have the new landing gear back from HH. They did not find anything wrong with the right side main which did not come down prior to the engine quitting. They did send me a new set of gear though at no cost. So the new gear is in and I'll give this another go. Fixing the left main that broke off was fairly easy since it broke out clean. I just used epoxy to put the 2 severed pieces of the wood mount back in place. Each piece had 2 of the blind nuts already in them and aligned. Wish every landing gear broke off like that. The only piece I needed to replace was the radiator underneath that was to crushed to repair.

If you allow the plane to reach a high speed (above about 40 mph) on the climb out the gear motor will over-amp and the controller will trip on the over-amp and stop the cycle. If this happens reverse the gear switch until both are up (or down) at a slow airspeed. Use of flaps can help get the airspeed down to a point where it all works. Air drag really increases at speeds above 55 mph. Even air retracts suffer from too high an airspeed but will usually continue the cycle the first time airspeed slows.
Electrics have to be recycled.
Full scale Mustangs would lose a wing at too high an airspeed if the check list wasn't followed. When the first D model went into service several lives were lost to a change in the main gear-door up-lock. When the Main door opened a couple of inches due to vibration or G load the airflow under the wing would force the gear down-the resultant high drag twisted the whole wing panel around the spar.

Ok SJ so as soon as the wheels leave the ground hit the retract switch? I am going out tomorrow and I put a separate 2200 mha LiFe battery on the power impute to the controler. I hoping for a flight with both doors closed.

In full scale it was gear up when we established a positive climb rate.

So I would say shortly after you take off but not so fast as if something happened you wouldn't have time to get them down and locked again. Say, engine out and straight ahead dead stick or whatever.

I can honestly say in Florida I've never hit a cactus!

Then again, you dont have to worry about gators.

I also have never hit a cactus but I have had flame oust and even with a careful decent, that on a grass or smooth dirt field would be just a clean up of the bottom of the fuse, ends up with jagged rips and tears. So the gear goes up and just hope. As for gators NO! but we have lots of rattlers out there this time of year.

It's already end of season here in Dubai and the weather is getting very hot for flying.
And the main reason is I don't have time for flying any more bcz I'm going back to college and I don't have spare time unfortunately

The plane still new and flew just once for test flight.
