***West Texas Warbirds 2014***
Hello everyone!
The members of the Wings Miniature Aircraft Society of Lubbock, Texas wish to announce the seventh annual, WEST TEXAS WARBIRDS event on August 22nd, 23rd and 24th, 2014. Come join us for a great weekend flying your military aircraft in campaign colors and markings. Scale military helicopters are also now welcome! The event will be held at the club field in Abernathy, Texas, just a few miles north of Lubbock, on I-27. Landing fee is $30.00 and will include a meal ticket for the onsite food vendor (combo meal), good for Saturday or Sunday. Onsite concessions, cool souvenir T-shirts, pilot give-a-ways and raffle items will all be available. Participants will be eligible for five beautiful awards that include Best WWI, Best WWII, Best Modern, People's Choice and Best Scale Flight.
The Wings' club field is BIG and features a 1300+" X 75" paved runway and a adjacent grassy area, suitable for larger aircraft use. The field has ZERO obstructions, so you will not hit a tree or run off the end of the runway at this field! The wide open flying area is perfect for larger aircraft, multi-engined craft, turbine jets or whatever your warbird heart desires. The field has provisions for 6 pilot stations, a startup area and taxiway and has a 110' covered pit awning. Easy-Up portable shades are welcome. Motor homes are welcome for overnight camping, but no hook-ups are available. Several moderately priced hotels and restaurants are a short drive away in Lubbock.
If you haven't been to participate, you're simply missing out ona great flying event. Come join us!
Please see our event website at www.westtexaswarbirds.com or contact me for any questions.

Hey Guys. This is a great meet with lots of room and time to fly. The land is flat in every direction (see video above) with no obstacles to get in the way. We will have concessions, shade, and plenty of action. I wouldn't miss it for the world. I am planning on debuting my new ESM turboprop powered T6A Texan ll if I can get the required check flights in.
Don't miss this one for sure!!

Can't wait! It's a great event, you can land on that runway any way you want to. You never run out of room, even if you mess up your first attempt, you can line it up again without circling around! Just makes for a longer taxi.

Dang, the retracts that I was trying in the Corsair are out! At least I have plenty of time to get something else put in before the meet. That wind was perfect yesterday, right down the runway!

My son and I are planning on making our first WTW event this year. We're driving up from Ft. Worth (actually Bedford) Friday evening after work for a weekend of meeting new friends, seeing lots of warbirds, and flying. We had a great time at the Warbirds Over Texas event earlier this year and are hoping to meet more great folks and to seeing many more fine warbirds.
Thanks!
Sonny

Guys, lots of new birds are scheduled to be completed for this year's West Texas Warbirds. I personally know of several Top Flite Giant scale Zeros, a new Top Flite Giant scale P-40, a new giant scale Top Flite P-47, and several oldies, but goodies previous planes. We should have a CARF Spitfire, maybe a Hanger 9 30cc Spitfire, several P51's, a CARF Tucano, possibly an ESM T6 Texan ll (depending on how the maiden goes....), several jets, several multi-engine bombers, and who knows what else. If past events are any indication, you'll probably get to see several of your favorite WWII birds fly, not to mention WWI, Korean War, Gulf War, and modern jet fighters. This should be a really great meet with lots of action.
You don't want to miss this one!!!!!
Regards, Les

Hi Bryan,
Thanks for the email, and thanks for helping spread the word that my Avenger is for sale (and not too far from you guys!).
I wish I could get away and still fly regularly, but it's not going to happen for a long while. The Avenger deserves to continue to be flown and enjoyed… not tucked away in storage.
Have a great event! I look forward to seeing the report and pictures of all the incredible models here in a few weeks.
Best,
Noah

Butlern, wow! Bryan showed me that Avenger. That is a beautiful plane, and I love Navy/USMC planes, wish I could afford it right now, but just can't. So for WTW, it looks like I'll have my CMP Hellcat, H9 Corsair, and my new TF Mustang that I just got from Les. I'm having some engine problems in the Hellcat and Mustang, but I should have them worked out by then. The wind and weather has been wonderful lately, so we should have excellent conditions! Cant wait to see everybody there.

My wife and I will try to make it again this year (last year was our first). This is a great event with a strong turnout. I flew my TF Giant F4U and had a ball.
I don't have any way to transport a tent or shade........would someone let my wife and I sit with them???
Thanks

Looks like straight down the runway winds on Friday and some more of the same on Saturday! Should cool it down, and make for some easy landings. We're going out tomorrow to get everything set up. Looking forward to a fun meet.
