Default 92.5" Piper L-4 Grasshopper

I got chance to buy a new ARF 92.5" Grasshopper from the second hand and I had DLE 20 without any employment, so I bought it. There is only one problem. I bought it without the tubes in the wings. They are with diameters 19 mm ( 3/4") and 11 mm (2/5"). It is almost impossible to buy some tube with this diameter in my country, but I believe, I´ll solve this small problem.
I very like the look and performance of this HK ARFs, and the scale balloon wheels look very good. I hope it will be good on a grass airfield.

I don´t like the textile hinges which you find in this ARF. I prefer classical nylon pinned hinges. So at the first time I had to drilled bigger gap for this hinges. I´m used to glue hinges with some PU (polyurethane) glue.

This ARF kit could be the first for someone who wants to build the first ARF airplane. There are prepared mounts for servos and every hole is named. The elevetor could be controlled by one or two servos. And very similar situation with the throttle servo. You can put the prepared mount on the right or left side of the fuselage- it depends on side of throttle bar on the engine.
After my experience with CMP and ESM kits I decided to brace a gear mounting. I pasted four hard wood bars between the gear mount and formers.

Here is a proof, that this Grasshopper is remake of CMPro ARF. Or maybe it is CMPro ARF. Hobbyking made changes in a manual, changed side of doors in fuselage and made bigger wingspan, but forgot about the tires.

Looks great. Many of the wing tubes are aluminum, any chance carbon fiber would be easier to find for you?

I´ve just thought about some carbon fiber tube, but finally I found some aluminium 3/4". Other possibility was to find it as a some spare part from another airplane.

There wasn´t some good fixing of the fuel tank. Manual says it goes through the two formers and behind the tank should be only deck in the cockpit. So I decided to make new mount.
I had to use some PET bottle. Original fuel tank with volume 500 ml is bigger but 250 ml is enough for me.

There were two holes for the throttle bar (on the right and left side). But throttle bar in my Grasshopper is little bit lower. I had to drill new one.

Does anybody know about some unusual camouflage with invasion stripes?

Here you can see my fuel tank in the fuselage. Other step was solving of controlling choke flap. Control bar will go into front part of the cowl.

I saw some pictures, and Grashoppers had invasion stripes around the fuselage including the bottom part. So I decided to paint them. At the first time I painted a white parts, the black parts I´ll paint tomorrow.

I would like to add some weapons to my Grasshopper. I found out some pictures with six bazookas under the wing. There was mounting a trio of bazookas under the each half of the wing.
I try to find some better picture, does anybody know about some better shots? Other thing which I don´t know is the diameter of each bazooka.

Nice work Prekin! I've got a new 25% Bill Hempel L-4 ready to fly now. The AGM30 I bought for it won't run though. Bummer! !
Your bazooka idea is cool. May try that myself so be sure to post pictures of how you do them.
Got my Zero flying finally. Already had to replace the canopy though. The Top Flite 50cc canopy fits perfectly.

Prekin,

Your busy! I like the project! I want to say those bazookas were approximately 3.5 inches. I ll have to see what I can find on the subject...

Cat,

are you saying that the TopFlight canopy fits the 50cc CMP Zero? Any pics?

Yes Casey, I´m busy, but I need some sloooowly airplane for my dad, and I think, that Piper is good choice. Both of us love warbirds, so Grasshopper is could be a good compromise. Thank you for the information about the diameter.
In my opinion Top Flite canopy should fits the 50cc CMP Zero. If you want I can measure lenght and width of my CMP canopy. Top Flite Zero is a little bit bigger but the difference is smaller than 5% so it is insignificant. What pics would you like?

Here you can see the CMPro locks on the side doors. In lower part of door are two lock with springs. In the upper part are two holes for magnetic iron. It is smart solution, because in the lower part of right wiing are also two magnetic irons. So when you open the door you don´t have to hold it.
I wanted to paint the black stripes but I don´t have black paint. So maybe tomorrow, or after maiden flight. I hope it will be this weekend.

To drill the holes for hinges was wrong way. The holes are too big and now I have a glue all around the hinges and I must to cut and clean it.

Last day I completed tail and glued new tail wheel. I had to bought a new one, because the one which was in ARF looks like a toy- not suitable for so big model.
I was suprised when I put the landing gear on the scales. Weight of this landing gear is 400 g (0,882 pounds).

Catboater, I´m glad, you like my idea about bazookas. I´m not sure if I understand well your problem with L-4. Do you have some problem with engine AGM30?
I would like to add them after maiden flight. I´m in a hurry with completation of my Grasshopper, because I have last three days when I´m at home. So maybe I´ll fly it with out the cowl and cords on the rudder and elevator.

Casey, Yes, it looks to be an exact fit. I haven't removed the broken one completely yet but just laying it on top everything matches including the frame spacing. Paint is different but who cares! Pictures in the next few days.

Casey, your Zero looks really nice! Are you going to drill holes for guns in the cowl?
It looks like you have some electric engine in this Zero.

There are two thin balsa prisms for cowl´s screws on the firewall and the contact area is too small, so I cut them change. Now I have two bigger and from hard wood.

Some progress for today. I found some olive green paint and I painted tail wheel and all horns. At the morning I comleted main gear and lock all nuts and screws. Now I hope all landings and rollings would be without any prbolem. I don´t want to repeat the story as with my ESM Dauntless.
