Had taken a little time off the SB2U to spend most of January on the 10 foot Corsair. Getting back to the Vindicator now. Spent the last few days finishing up the right wing panel and aileron. The Vindicator had a leading edge of aluminum skin, with open bay ribs/fabric on the back half. Here, I sheeted the leading edge to the main spar with 1/8 balsa and then glassed. To simulate the fabric open bay portion of the wing, I sheeted this area with 3/32 balsa and then cap stripped the rib locations with 1/32 balsa. When you apply the Solartex fabric covering, it gives the appearance of open bay ribs, but underneath you have the strength and rigidity of a fully sheeted wing. I also built up the wing tip with a 3/16 balsa core, with false ribs on each side, and then fabric covered the area as well. This thing has a 48.5 inch long aileron!

Not going to make the meeting. Got an invite to supper and wifey wants to go. I'll be at the swap next week touch base with you there? Besides the beaut of a spitfire that Philis gave me is taxing my limited abilities. I've gotten real creative in fitting a G62 into the front end of that wing repair. LOL
