Yo Jeff,
If you want pin hinges, Darrell has aluminum ones, 1/4" and 3/8" sizes. The 3/8" are huge and can handle just about any size model plane that can be built.

Oh so close. Radio and fuel tank installed and all graphics on, except below tail on fuse side. After I mount the rear gun/gunner, I still need to install the retract gear and retract valve and install/set-up the motor and final mount the cowl. A couple more weeks and I will be balancing her.

Yes, on the F11-C2 it is functional. Always wanted to do carrier landing. If you what to see the design email me and I'll share it with you, just for S nGs? Pretty simple and I believe fail safe.

Can't wait to see this fly at Owatonna this year (or maybe even Warbirds over Iowa!). I know there was a Helldiver there last year (smaller, see photo) but I can't say I've seen a large scale Vindicator. I picked up a used Ziroli Stuka at the event last year and detailed it out over the winter, hope to be able to bring it. Dive Bombers are cool, especially if you have a siren and a bomb drop.

The key to is function is the there is no load on anything except the pivot of the hook its self. The hair pin lowers it to the full down position, if it hooks something, arresting wire, as the hook is pulled aft the hair pin is flipped up . Only thing I might add is a spring to pull the hook down and also to act as increasing resistance to lower the shock of the sudden stop

Maiden flight of the Vindicator took place on 03JUL15. All-in-all, things went very well. The plane has a large CG shoft with the gear down. I found on the first flight that I ran out of up elevator trim, and had to come in holding 1/2 to 3/4 up elevator stick with the flaps deployed. I always leave the gear down on the first flight of any new plane...there is enough other stuff to go wrong without the gear not coming down for some reason.
Second flight, got the gear up and after about 7 laps, the radial died. Not sure why, but appears to be a fluke. I dropped the gear and dead sticked with no issues.
Third flight, went to raise the gear, and the left did not come up. So, again, I flew with gear down. MAde several laps, testing flap and stall response, landed like a butterfly with sore feet. Of course, tested the gear on the ground and all worked fine.....
Final weight of the Vindicator is 86 pounds, less fuel. The plane finished out with 10 pounds of lead in the nose (I had to drill out about 1 pound of the original 11 pounds I had added). . Span is 13 foot wingspan. Plane takes off and flies very nice and easy. Not overly fast with the Evo 260 radial, but the engine is new, and a dive bomber was not a fast plane anyway. Overall, it flies veryscale like at about 1/2 throttle. I am using a Xoar 34X14 prop.
Here are some pictures at the field. A friend took vid of the first flight. I hope he posts it soon.

Congratulations Jeff! The "Wind Indicator" is absolutely gorgeous and I think this might be your best build yet. Then again I am kind of drawn to the unusual so my opinion may be biased! Will be looking forward to some video when you get all the kinks ironed out.

Saturday was pretty Cool Jeffry seeing "Vindicator Time". The Evo radial was fun to hear. Sounded like a high performance Ferrari then you see it's hanging off of a dump truck. I enjoyed watching the vindicator fly and the engine looks to be a good fit.

Thanks guys, I enjoyed building this one....
I,like Chad, like t build the more recluse/rare models you don't see often.
My next plan is to finish up my 124 inch Holman Mossie that has been framed up for 10 years or better.....yikes
Marty, I will see you at the field my friend.
