Default Ames Multi-Fly

September 6, 2014

0900-1900

Used to be for multi-engines and we still feature them, esp the "Bomber Boys," but we now encourage any Warbird or Classic pilot, just so everybody can have fun. 33 pilots last year: plenty of camaraderie, but also lots of available flight time.

BBQ and fixin's at noon

Field is in great shape: new PetroMat and new flight stations: 630 ft with unlimited overfly with TALL corn that will gently catch and cradle your plane in the unlikely event you "come up a little short."

Lots of good trophies (eleven) and prizes include a DLE-55

CLASSIC planes, CLASSY pilots!

Speaking of which, I added "Best WWI" to the trophy list this year, because I felt bad you didn't win anything with your masterpiece last year.

Not retroactive, though, sorry

I would probably just get a trophy caught in the prop anyhow

I got conflicting messages from Frank and Dwayne, but the most recent word is that Radcliffe is ON, so I plan to show up Saturday with something to fly

Only 5 days till the big event

For whatever it's worth, weather forecast for that day is PERFECT: 71 degrees and wind 5-7 North, right down the runway

Our field is in great shape: new PetroMat, new pilot stations and green-beyond-green turf.

The Central Iowa Bomber Boys now number 5, and at last check, all 20 engines were running fine!

Bring your Multi, Warbird, or Classic and join the fun!

This is a pretty nice field and event for you out there sitting on the fence..trying to decide... we had fun last year when it was right at 98 degrees, so it should be like CANDY this year with the much nicer weather...

Only two days away and the forecast still looks gorgeous.

Supposed to be 73 degrees, partly cloudy and winds 5-10 right down the runway

Weather forecast is still perfect.

I'm gonna quit checking it

Be aware, those of you coming from the south: Football Game starts at 11:00 AM, so I-35 will be congested north of Ankeny. Come before 0900

Exit 111 to the airfield goes other way from the stadium, so not a problem once you get off the Interstate

Thanks to all who attended.

Over 40 pilots total

What a perfect 2 days!

Lloyd and Starla took over 800 pictures and will post the best ones on SmugMug soon, I'm sure

Denny's got video, which I will get to you ASAP, IF you left me a legible address!

And Thanks, foodstick, for promoting the event to the WWI guys. Now I can't imagine how we did it without them

All my friends had fun, and I am sure they will be back.

Most of them don't go to events of any kind to fly.. We usually have super double secret WW1 nights at our field and keep it quiet... Well as quiet as you can with 6-10 1/4 WW1 fighters...

However they seemed to be warming right up to your event !!!
