DLE 222 in a warbirds
Hello Gentlemen,
I recently finished a 3W Bearcat with a DLE 222 under the hood. It flew for the first time last week and flew and sounded fantastic. My only complaint is maybe a little more top end speed would be nice. It was no slouch, but I like the top end speed a little more than most. All the info that I was able to find before installing the 222 was mainly from reading forums about large IMAC planes. The 222 quad seems to be more popular with the IMAC fliers. I have only heard of one or other guy that installed a DLE 222 in his Bates Sea Fury. The prop that all the IMAC guys have recommended to me is a 32 x 12 with this engine. I would like to try maybe a 30 x 16 or 28 x 18 and see how that goes. Not sure if those sizes of props would over-rev the motor . Just wondering if anyone out there is using a DLE 222 in their large warbird and if so what has been your experience with it? Thanks. Jon

Jonboy2, you might want to email RCKen as he was at the Warbirds Over The Rockies two weeks ago and I know has some data on almost all the planes there......Brian OMeara has switched from the large Moki radials to a different gas engine for his 'big bird'

I am planning on either the DLE 222 or the DA 200 for my next Meister P-47 build...I think for the $ the DLE is the way to go if we can get it to spin the R's and get the top end we want. I'm like you jonboy...I like speed when you want it! I was told recently that the DLE was a stronger more powerful engine over the DA200 and this was from another pilot that claims he owns both. He actually preferred the DLE. I was really wanting to run the MOKI Radial but the maintenance schedule has convinced me to stay with 2 strokes for the reliability and easy care.

I have stopped posting on here much due to how hard it’s to upload pictures unlike RCGroups and Facebook
.
