I was going to wait until after paint, but decided against it. It will be much easier to paint without the canopy glass and motor installed. I will definitely ask for your advice as it gets closer! I'll start out with the factory settings on the needles and see how it goes. Gotz is getting me the right size prop. What prop did you use Tom??
I might not fly this until spring. Our weather is miserable and it may be for quite a few months.

Well.. First off you have to look at what he asked...
How much for the IL135.... He did NOT ask for ALL the other stuff, Did he????
So be fare about this!!!!!!!!
Also.... How long ago was this quote? You cut that off!
Also, The price ALSO depends on what the EURO is that day.
I tell you..... Some of you people need something else to do besides get on here and trash people!

Ummm buddy. You were the one insinuating that I was sooooo wrong. If anyone was "trashing people" it was you. Lighten up, we're talking semantics here. Its a lot more than a DA85.... ;-) I just got this motor, the quote is pretty accurate. Anyone planning on putting it in a P-51 would be a fool not to purchase the install kit. Furthermore, one would be bordering on lunacy to not get it with the starter!

You know what... There are just some people in the world that know everything and can't be delt with.
Like GOD... He knows ALL. Some people think they are on the same level and have to be right and rule over all....
I thought someone asked how much a IL135 was with shipping.... I had NO idea he wanted all that other stuff.... It must be a GOD thing...
I gave him the price of the IL135 and shipping, BUT... WHO KNEW????? I didn't...
So saying this... I have nothing more to ad or give to this form! I hope that Tom will see this also, and go elsewhere! He is to great of a guy to be caught up in this form!

if you want to have a lot, it costs a lot.... thats life. little merlin-sound is expensive, the sound of grass-trimmer not
so, Engine, el. start and installation kit + shipping is about 3.8k. but gerry is right, that was not the question!!!
now please letzte talk about installation, cooling, setup... and watch some videos of the time when season starts and we can fly our new build machines!!!

Tom, Here is my initial cut out. What do you think? I haven't attached the spoiler yet. Thinking about indexing it with pins, then using rare earth magnets to hold it so I can take it off. I think leaving it unpainted will show less?? I've got the cold side sealed air tight, the holes for the exhaust are oversized, hopefully this cut out will suffice. It was painful to cut that big a hole!
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

That looks very good! That will work!!
No problem when the holes for the exhausts are bigger then needed...
Maybe its better to let the spoiler unpainted. Its your choice
for fixing: drill 2 holes. 2 littles plasic-screws and thats it!

Perfect thread for me, as I just received my brand new 135/270 LE for my carf spit. The spit is ready (servos, retracts/doors, cockpit all done) for engine installation, and the cooling issue is my main concern now. My last project was "easy" , as that was a Moki radial. Cooling an inline engine is new to me. I am using 2 temp telemetry (Futaba) sensors on my moki (hottest and coldest sylinder), and that helped me a lot in the process of getting the optimum cooling. Telemetry is extremely valuable as it gives me temperatur data when airborne as well I have looked at all the pictures in this thread, and they are giving me a great starting point. Has any of you logged any temperature data (sylinder nr one vs nr two temps) on ground/airborne?
Tom ( or anyone else), more pictures are welcome
And, what are the brass nipples at the back plate and on the crank shaft for? Optional use? Can they be blanked off?
Regards,
Kim

Hello! I have temp-telemetry all the time. It's the savest way to handle the cooling of inline engines.
My sensors are near the sparks, probably the hottest point.
In flight i had with the IL135 max temp of 155 degree. Your cooling is ok when your zylinders are not more then 15degree different.
Important is, that you get this result with your cooling installation, and not with the carb adjust. To do the second cylinder high needle more out the the first will cost power. Both carbs should be adjust exactly the same.
There are 2ways to find out what about your carb-setup.
- exhaust temp
-exhaust smoke
the temp of exhaust you kan measure with laser-temp. You also will feel it with your hand, if one zyl is more hot then the other.
The very best was is to look what is in your exhaust-pipes.(after a flight) You get one finger jn the first and another in the second. Then you compare the smoke and burned oil. If both fingers look same, you are good adjusted.
When the smoke is same in both, but the temp difference is to big(20 degree ore more) you have to check your cooling.
Mostly have the first zylinder too much cooling.
Best regards
tom

Kim, I believe the brass nipples are to release crank case pressure and should not be closed off. what telemetry system are you using? I have the robbe sensors with my 18mz and can't get them to register, it would be great if you could give a tutorial! I have telemetry on my jets and have a rough idea on how to set it up, but not having any luck with these sensors. Love to sse pics of your spit. I really wanted to use the spit for this motor, but was worried about hacking holes in the front. Had to do that on the he bottom with the mustangt, so I guess I'm doing the same now. I tried to find info before I made the purchase without much luck, now everyone is coming out of the woodwork! Might have to order a spit once I see your install. I know Gotz and two friends are building three of them.
