Yes the kit is good !
i did only a litte modification. the air-intake separates the air in 2 ways. big one for cooling, little one for fresh air to the carbs. so, i cutted the little one away and closed the hole. i think coling is workig better this way.
in both cases you have to isolate the carbs, so the separation is not needed!

Great Thread !!!

Which Kolm engine should go into the CARF Mustang and Spitfire ?

135 2 cylinder 180 crank ?

135 270 crank ?

135 extended version ?

150 three cyclinder ?

My primary concerns are sound, power, fit, cooling. I thank you all for a great thread and I look forward to your recommendations.

Any suggestions on where I should purchase a Kolm engine for shipment to USA ?

you can use:

IL100 Long edition (270 cs)
IL135 Long edition(270 cs)
IL150 Long edition

with starter or without. fits both

You can order at Vogelsang. the three cylinder sounds best. but its takes more work on installation. your choice :-)

Hey guys, just a few questions mostly out of curiosity. I have an IL150 and love the looks and sound of these engines!!

I noticed Kolm now have a 77cc cylinder with many engines made out of that cylinder, did Kolm discontinue the 67cc cylinder and all the engines made with that?
Do they also have another cylinder of 60cc to make the new BX120 and BX240?
Lastly, are all the engines sleeved or plated? I read on another froum that they switched to Nikasil plated cylinders on all the engines?

Thanks, Mike

So :
the 50cc Head will stay 50cc at inline engines, but Nikasil plated. (exept the Boxers, the get a 58cc Head Nikasil) so BX100 is now BX120...240
the 67cc head will be replaced by 77cc head. also Nikasil.

at the moment all are sleeved!

Thanks Tom for your reply, you have a lot of knowledge and information which we all appreciate here!

Sleeve and nikasil are very close in performance and reliability when done correctly, is Kolm switching to nikasil for weight savings?

No Problem! Feel free to ask anythink about this engines!

You are right, Nikasil is the modern way and it saves wheight. at a single-zylinder it is only a bit, but at a 4 Zylinder ... more :-)

Hi Tom

I'm only getting 4800 rpm on the ground with a fiala 30x14, and a fair amount of vibration at low revs, should i be getting more power like the recommended 5200 in the manual?

Here it is running using ASPEN-2

Hello!

So, as i can remember i had at IL130 5100-5200 on ground, but not with a brand new engine...after a few flights.

Vibration on low rpm with the 135-270 is normal. because of the 270 degree crankshaft...a little tribute to the sound.

you engine sounds good, think everything is ok. in flight you will have above 6000 rpm on prop. so, dont worry about that.

Cheers Tom

Yes it still feels a bit tight but i have run it for the full 2 hours and set the valve clearances.

The engine has never skipped a beat so i'm chuffed, i'ts good to hear someone with experience clarify that it's all good.

Thanks

Rob

30x14 is a lot of prop for breaking in. My Kolm supplied break in sheet says it was run for half an hour. It also says it tached at 5500/900 on a mejzlik 28x12 and with a mejzlik 30x10 tached 5300/900. I'm guessing your engine is inline with expectations based on that if it was my engine. I wouldn't use that prop for breaking in. I'd let it rev up more.

Morning!

On Ground a smaller Prop will be Ok. But not to fly, The prop will turn to high. Maybe 34/12 For The First tests. But For sure not smaller.

In my Bf109 was an il100. I Used 27/14 3blade. In ground only 4800. But on flying it was at 6000+.
4stroke dont have a Problem with bigger props.

So, i had various Engines from Kolm For Test and Flying and i Never Used a smaller prop For break in. I always try to be at 5000 on ground. So, we Know what prop For what Engine an what Type of Plane. But of course you can use The Prop what you want

Yes proper order Tom and luckymacy, i know where your'e coming from but as Tom says you always try to achieve the recommended revs when breaking in on the ground-5000-5200

I carried out the first couple of hours break in with a falcon 34x12 before setting clearances and cleaning out the gunk residue, I can still feel a slightly tight piston when warm turning over by hand with the plugs out.

I feel comfortable with what Tom says that after the first few flights of 6000 the engine will start to loosen up a bit.

In true German tradition (even though i'm British) i plan to carry it out by the book

I love discussing engines!!!

Tom, I have an EZ 67 that I am putting in a Yellow Aircraft P-40, is it possible to upgrade it to the EZ 77 at a later date?

Hello!
From technical is an upgrade possible. But not from finacial :-)

The difference in power an wheigt ist not so big that it make sense. and: it must be done in factory. the costs for shipping will be more then you have paid for the engine.
The EZ 67 is a solid an strong engine, you will be happy with it for many years.

That reminds me, I'm still waiting for details on your ISB box. I just checked Vogelsand's website and found no reference on it. Is he going carry it? I also tried to find it at http://www.cs-scale-concepts.de/index.php. But no luck there either.
