I also have the Top Flite giant P47 with a DLE-85 and it almost lands itself. Very easy to land. I have found half flaps or no flaps are easier than full flaps. With full flaps the controls seems to get mushy and not as stable and locked in as half or no flaps. If you do get that plane and you get robarts make sure you cut the springs a couple coils or the struts wont absorb anything and it will bounce a lot even on a smooth landing. I have sierra retracts and wheels in mine. Not a direct drop in landing gear but I made them work and was worth it.

If you feel the high wing liaison planes ( L-4, L-19, L-126 ) that I suggested earlier are too tame to scratch your warbird itch, then the next step would be one of the military low wing trainers, such as a Pt-19 with fixed gear, an At-6 Texan or T-34 Mentor both of which have retracts in real life but could be modeled with either fixed or retracting gear. Flaps would also be optional to install and use on any of them though not scale correct on the L-4.

Texans are not known for being particularly easy to land.

Thank you for your insight on AT-6 landings. I was trying to think of military low wing trainers and threw the Texan onto the list. Based on your statement the OP should scratch the Texan off his list! Back to the high wing L birds maybe. I have a RC model PT-19 and a T-34 but do not have a Texan. The only AT-6 Texan I ever flew was full scale and I did not land it, the instructor did. Lucky for me, he didn't had a problem landing it.

I'd still highly recommend the P-47. May not be the sexiest, but it sure handles well!

I have to second the AT-6 landings. I have both the the H9 and the old Kyosho fiberglass series. Both fly well but tend to be a little fast on the landings and the gear makes them somewhat "tippy/squirelly" on the ground. Find the H9 one much worse than the Kyosho.

JAYNC,
What are you using for a prop?
Thanks,
