I tried the 20x10x4 prop last year on a DLE 55 powered Tarheel Hal. As I said in a previous post, it turned 5500 on the ground and never unloaded in the air. It looked like it was flying at half-power all the time. The normal prop for the 55 is a Xoar 22x10x2 and it hits over 7000 on the ground and unloads pretty good in the air. I estimate its' speed at between 80 to 90 mph.

The next attempt will be with the bashed P-47 that I posted some pictures of Saturday. The G-62 tached 6000 on the ground and I know from experience with that engine that it will really unload once in the air. If it unloads about 1500 rpm, I reasonably expect to see 70 to 80 mph. It won't be the fastest of the 2, but will have a nice look.

I like the fishscale idea, but haven't tried one yet.

I am wondering what the 19 x8 4 blade will turn on my dle55 ra engine that I bumped the compression on and did a little exhaust work on. At almost 130 delivered it becomes a huge mistake to be wrong on choice. I'm like the rest of you that a 2 blade doesn't look good on a warbird. On these planes scale is about 30 inch diameter 4 blade. The other day I had an idea about belt driven gear drive. Almost all the parts I need can be had dirt cheap from an industrial supply company called Misumi. The catalog I have at work is over 3000 pages and each page has 1000 possible make items. Real rpm of 2800 with even 26 inch 4 blade with 14 pitch should haul the mail. I need to do some math and sketch some drawings. I see things online but the money is unreal.

The only reason 4 bladed props were used in the full scale planes was to harness the power of the big engines on them.
Most early planes had 2 bladed props... even the early spits.

true, but they spin slowly. less apt to cavitate and had huge paddles and big time pitch. I worked for years with an old man who graduated from a technical school in the 1930's in Detroit that he had airplane mechanic degree. he went on to invent deicing mechanism's for props and also the supersonic boomerang shaped prop blades. he once explaned to me that 2 blades less apt to cavitate and 4 blade more efficient at big mph.

I finished covering the fuselage this morning. I really like the aluminum film from Hobby King that I used. It has a "grain" to it just like real milled aluminum sheet. The film sticks really well and shrinks up nicely to cover compound curves. And of course a pilot is needed to fly this thing.

It really does look like aluminum. Can you buff it with steel wool?

looks very nice, have you used this before? the Chinese coverings I have experienced have the habit of having the color separate from the film and then it is a problem to replace. the color stays stuck to the wood. it looks real though. maybe some 4 ought steel wool to remove the sheen.

Well, It is "Chinakote" but it works well. This is the first time I've used the aluminum....I've used other colors and have also been satisfied. The film lifts off wood fairly well, but does sometimes leave the color adhesive behind. A little acetone takes it off. I haven't tried buffing it with steel wool. This is the one I'm using: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...arehouse_.html

Cool, always love to see a new TFGS P-47 being born. I'm curios to how many are around these days?

Yeah, the first 90% of building a plane takes 10% of the time and the last 10% of building takes 90% of the time!

Yup, that's where the saying "90% completed with 90% left to go" comes from!

Just about finished. Every thing covered and all equipment installed and working. Only thing left to do is paint the cowl and put on the markings. The plane weighs 19 lbs as she sits now.

I was surprised at the weight, too. Especially, with the on board electric start. I guess it's possible my scales are a little off?

Most light kits build in the 25-30 range glassed, ARF are in the 25+- range, more scale detailed kits are 30+

I cant see this kit being less then 23+- unless you have fixed gear, and no thrills.

I reweighed it with a digital scale and it weighs 21 pounds.

got some work done. Alum. Is finished. Finished my exhaust plates. I need some .010" alum. To make my vent shrouds. I have extra clearance around exhaust pipes. Not real scale but I need to bleed heat from all over. Still looks pretty nice I guess. I'll work on opening up spokes on my rims and soldering in some nav. lights . I have so little time and I hate to quit working on Sundays.

Thanks. Just a copy from the "Zombie" plane at top gun a while back. This is what this will be. I had it going long before we all saw it in MAN magazine. I wasn't going to change my dream after someone best me to the punch with an awesome Miester Scale set up. I'm happy.

DLE55RA the has a thinner base gasket and I widened the exhaust port and raised it .025 inch which equates to .010" after thinning up the base gasket.
