Have you calculated the estimated wing loading on the P-38? Once you have that figure, you can ballast another model to the same loading and get a feel for flying a plane so equipped.

That will be nice. I know he will say 30 degrees on the ignition. Be wary and do some testing. Depending on true compression for sure run 92 octane fuel and don't let head temp at the plug go more than 350 degrees. Go to harbor freight and get a laser temp gage. I just got one yesterday for 20 bucks. Normally 35. Either way you may need to back off timing . remember these gas engines now don't go much over 7.5 to 1 compression ratio. Glow engines on metanol higher because methanol only half the btu's of gas . nitro almost does not burn unless there is squeezing pressure. Believe it. Not explosive on its own.

I meant to say your engines about 65 cc and that's a healthy 85 cc gasser in comparison

I would have to add 14 lbs of lead to my Jug to get to that weight!

It's a surprise for sure but glass and primer then flite metal adds up. Then I did the functional turn cooler doors and cowl flaps plus the animated pilot. Then the RDS units, not wanting control horns.

How complicated is it to move the gear to the scale location. Thinking of doing one of these with Sierra gear but only if it's not too much of a pain.

You'd have to cut the main spar and do some serious reconstruction of the wing if you want it to stay in one piece when you pull some Gs. TonyBuilder did something like that, I don't know if his gear location is exactly the scale one. Take a look at post #118 on page 5.

However, if you want it to go for real scale proportions you need a telescopic landing gear. The Jug's legs became shorter when they went up in the wing. That was necessary because the bird had a huge prop that had to stay clear of the ground, lots of guns that had to fit into the wings, too, and that turbo supercharger system that didn't allow the wheels to stick into the fuselage underbelly.

Doing the same only Im going to send my engine to Adreine, I do not want any headaches

Im not sure if it will go in the P-47 or a soon to acquire Corsair. I have to see how much trouble it will be to expand the radius of the cowl first.

Keep us posted on your experience!

Hi,after a lot of work,i think over and over again about the best way to do the job.finally all the cockpit of my kansas tornado is full ready. i use a micro linear servo from FIRGELLI.ecxatly the L16-R,140mm stroke ,63/1 gear ratio ,6 volts..2 brass rails.2 threaded rod.,And 2 flexible rod from sullivan.
I hope you like it.

could U please provide a URL and part number and a Parts List for your sliding Canopy set up? Really looks great. Wonder if it could be adapted to the Bubble Canopy P-47D-40RA "TARHEEL HAL" ARF Version?

Thanks to everybody for your kinds words.
This is a hort list of the material i use.

electric actuator:http://www.firgelli.com/L16_R_Miniat...RC_p/l16-r.htm.
Mine has a 35:1 gear ratio. If you want more faster movement you need to increase that ratio, the you need to select 63:1, or 150:1-
canopy rails from Mick reeves models in UK:http://www.mickreevesmodels.co.uk/~m...ccessories.htm

rail sliders ,by sullivan:Nylon rod.

To attach the canopy to the sliders i use small tapping screws.

tomorrow i will make some Photos of the internal set up.

Hound dog i do not know what system of rails has the full version of the p 47 bubble top.But but i think wiht the same set up can be adapted to the bubble top.take a look in you tube. There is many videos about this kind of canopy like mustang for exemple.that mayba can help.

Lots of stuff on you tube about these actuators. 35 to one is about right. Too slow at 100 to one but lots of torque I bet
You did a nice job. Be proud. Very clean. I am just now starting to receive deliveries for my Ziroli P-38. Canopy very large, my DLE55RA engines I got today will fit perfect in the cowls. My wife is in overdrive about this one, wait till the gear show up Friday. I will have this option on this and the warbird pilot will look good. Only thing missing on my Zombie.

No, up here in Michigan we have had very few nice weekend days. I need to start the engine in the plane for the first time and do real world pull tests and check the heat from internal exhaust. Many things need a good once over then I must visit a club with a very long runway. I am the president of the local club and feel like a traitor to go somewhere else to fly. We only have 400 feet of runway but gobs of airspace. I need lots of runway with this heavy plane. Then take it very easy.

By "Up in Michigan" do U perhaps mean the UP? Did a club search and the results

We found 98 clubs that match the information you entered.

Spent a little time in the UP. Worked out to 3 years, 3 months, 3 weeks, 3 days & a wake up, But who was counting. Started my short timers chart a day or two after I got to K.I. 1211 days to discharge. About 5 or 7 years ago I got a chance to fly on a very short down hill R/C runway just off MHY 553 in Sands almost directly west of the north end of the Old K.I. Sawyer Runway.
Looks like thing have changed a lot from back then the R/C Run Way ran N-S.

No, sorry to mislead anyone. Mostly I see guys not from around this area or state on the forums. I live halfway between Port Huron and Flint in Lapeer County. I belong to the Lapeer County RC wingnuts. Not a big club but nice guys. I wish they were heavy builders but I guess I'm the only fanatic and spend years building on one project. I'll never quit and just enjoy the hell out of it. Our weather is so slow coming around this year it stinks. Hopefully soon things will change.
