I recently got an air brush, I need to practice and will get paints from Micro Mark they use for train modeling. They have many to replicate exhaust staining. I will do it this winter and I need to build some gun stacks from tubing and paint on the residue marks. Due to family health issues I haven't had time to do this or final balance it. I need to do pull tests and some other stuff yet too. I guess it won't fly till next year, that's ok too.

Hello guys, I just completed, and ran, my new giant P47 Thunderbolt razorback. I have a curious part left over I can't identify. It's an alauminum rod, about 1/4" dia., threaded internally on one end, and it's rounded on the other. It's maybe 2-1/2" long. Anyone have any idea where it goes?

I know that Top Flite P 47 builder know, but for "new guys". Sets for scale finish on your model - www.nsmodelers.rs

Your model can be like this TF P47, made by my friend Manuel from Spain...

I'm assembling my new ARC P-47 now. I plan on using a G.P.88cc gas engine. My stock muffler will not fit without some modification to the engine box. Just wondering if those of you who used a DA 85 or DLE 85 could tell me what type of pitts muffler you used. Or if you have a picture could you post it.
Thanks.

JV,
My buddy Tony here in Texas built an ARC with a DLE85, you'll have to do some mods to the firewall to get it to fit. Check out Tony's thread here, look around page 70 or so for pics...

If your Field has no noise restrictions measure the port size and C/C bolt dia. and then just check slimlines, Bison and J-tex. But if your field has a 90db sound barrier requirement like ours ten I would recommend a custom muffler from Bison coast is a bit more but they have done great for me, and it is not hard to achieve with a little planning on baffling and internal hole sizes

I could not fit a Jtec pitts muffler inside the cowl for DA85 size motor. The motor vibrated the hell out of the airframe too.
I ended up downsizing to G62 for power and that is a better match. Flies with good respectable speed, just not swinging the 4 bladed prop that DA85 could swing before.
GP88 motor may be better suited for TF P40 cowl. I saw a guy install DA85 into the P40 and it fit inside really well and flies great.

The engine can be mounted at an angle that sometimes allows a factory muffler to be used and within the cowl. No cutouts needed for a side-exhaust 55. The 85 would obviously be larger, but it is worth checking.

Thanks for the replies, I contacted JTEC, about the P-47 with the GP88, they said they could make what ever I need. They already have a muffler for the plane, but for the DA85 and DLE85. The GP88 uses a different exhaust pattern, no big deal. It's ironic that you say your friend used a 85cc for his P-40. I had a NIB T/F P-40 and Sierra retracts, but sold them to a friend because I thought the P-47 was more suited for the bigger engine. I have a T/F P51 with a DA60 and really like how it flies, but it could use alittle more speed. Hence the GP88 for the P-47.
