I don't intend to use bigger throws than given in the manual, but I think the control surfaces should always be able to move at least a little bit further than that, just in case that I later decide, for whatever reason, to increase the throws. Usually my control surfaces can move much further than the throws I end up using, but with the P-47 I'll probably limit that excess throw capability to a minimum in the attempt to end up with a somewhat scalish looking hinge line. How well that will work out remains to be seen.
With most planes I start programming the high rate throws given in a manual and use quite a lot of expo. So I have fine enough control if the plane turns out to be twitchy, and plenty of authority to counter any nasty maiden flight surprise. More often than not I pretty much stick to that programming except for a few minor adjustments, as it allows for smooth flying and emergency maneuverability.

The only control I leave on high rate is the rudder, I have seen way to many planes lost to to much elevator and aileron inputs. The P-47 is or has to be the best flying warbird to fly. I have two a 63" TF, 20 years old still flies great, and a GS TF .

I've started cutting pockets for the elevator hinge point covers but, comparing to some photos, these seem a little to big. It seems the 3-view drawing which I've taken the measurements from isn't very accurate. Now I'm having some difficulties finding a good photo of a P-47 elevator to take measurements from. Most pics are taken at a much too flat angle and distorted by perspective. The 3-views I have are either too small or drawn with too thick lines to display this little detail accurately. Also I'm not completely sure I which drawing is trustworthy and which is wrong. Maybe you have a link or a pic to help me out here?

Does this help a little bit. It's the right Elevator trim tab on TarHeel Hal. Just a suggstion check out Wickapedia for the location (meseum) where the P-47 is U wish to model, Call them and see if some one won't lay a ruler on the area in question and take some pictures with a cell phone and EMail them to you.
Hope this helps.

Aircraft Recognition Lights – A series of colored lights (White, Red, Green and Amber), were installed on aircraft (see Figure _ TBM-3 Recognition Lights) that were used to recognize friendly aircraft at night. These lights were used in different combinations, or could be used for signaling purposes. They were limited to reliable use during daylight. The control switch-boxes were usually positioned on the right-side in fighter aircraft (see Figure _ P-61), and would be located on the aisle stand on bombers. The White recognition light would be mounted on the upper fuselage of the aircraft and was teardrop shaped and protruded slightly upward. The Red, Green and Amber recognition lights were flush mounted usually on the bottom of the fuselage or on the right wing tip.

I need to figure out which landing gear I'm going to use for my P-47, so I have a few questions.
Is it possible to realize fully closed inner gear doors with the Robart gear and without radical wing re-design (like cutting the main spar)?
How about the quality of the Robart gear or other products fitting the construction? Some pics showing the mechanisms in some more detail would be highly appreciated. I've seen some other Robart product which left me somewhat sceptical about their price/quality ratio.
What other products would you recommend? I'm not even sure about electric vs. pneumatic. This is my first warbird and my first plane with retracts, I need to get an overview, some options to consider.
Greetings,
Hardy

I have Ro bart air retracts on my TF P47 Razorback and have never had a problem with them. I've had their electrics on an ESM P47 and did have a few problems, and my son had their electrics on an FW190....the retracts couldn't even lift the wheels (they are long on that model). Their electric retracts used to be provided by Down & Locked, but they parted ways over sourcing. Wikes RC provided the electronics to D&L'd. If you're going with air, you'd probably do ok with Ro bart as long as there's no nose gear (there isn't). Their nose gear yoke alloy is way too thin and bends with almost any grass landing. I'm not sure they do much design validation lately. They have problems, for example, with that new air compressor. If money is no object, go with D&L'd, especially with electric retracts.
