Chris, I did get their controller. Only complaint, there was some confusion in the paperwork as to whether the gear should be powered by a 7.4 or 6 volt batt.

Edited to update: Just saw that the Top RC Spit Gear are now listed on the CJM website. They're offering electric or pneumatic...

We've been to 2 really well ran events in the midwest the last 2 weekends. The Muncie and Elkhart Indiana Classic and Warbird Allegiance holds 7 events a year and each one is better than the next.
We we're very successful in showing off the new planes. I can say the response was better than I even thought it would be. We took quite a few presale orders for the Zero's and Mustangs.
We got my personal Zero in the air. Using a EME 70 Twin Cylinder with Electric start. The motor runs flawlessly.
Most of the comments were when and how can I get one.
At the Air Supremacy over Elkhart Indiana show this last weekend they held the banquet in a huge Hanger that was full of some impressive full scale planes.

Gents, update long time in coming. I ordered the Dave Brown spinner (talked to Mr Brown himself) and it came in while I was on my latest trip. I pieced it together tonight when I got back and I'm pretty happy with the result. Incidentally, when I say I pieced it together, I mean that I (VERY CAREFULLY) put the spinner and prop on the motor and the assembly is hanging on the cowling from the backplate. As you can see, the EME 35 fits completely within the cowling with spark plug installed. In fact, I tried it with a Pitts style muffler installed, an it just barely didn't fit...that is to say, it would fit within the cowling, but the spinner/hub wouldn't center up.

Heres a comparison between the Dave Brown and the stock 2 Blade spinner. The Dave Brown is their standard spinner cut for the 4 blade biela...as you can see, it's a bit "pointier" than the Spit style spinner, but not too bad. Once painted, I think the overall effect will be pretty good.

I STILL owe an explanation of how I measured/drilled the stab. Hopefully I'll get to it befor I forget how I did it!

Heres the plane mocked up (no engine) with the prop and spinner:

zrooster - why did you have them use their standard spinner instead of their parabolic spinner? their parabolic spinner is closer in appearance to the spitfire and mustang spinners so it would look more scale than the standard spinner.

I talked it over with Dave and he said the standard looked more scale... In person I think it looks pretty good...even better once I get it painted!

Guys,

The manual doesn't list any throws. What throws are you using on the spit.

The throws need to be less than 45% on the elevator.. On my aircraft, as is with most Spitfires, it is pitch sensitive. Because it is so light and wants to continue to fly, I have found that wheel landings are the best and most beautiful. I have a lot of expo in the elevator, I will measure the throws and post it here what I have done. I have much good news in the flight envelope and many surprises that no other warbird I have flown has!

Good deal, Chris! I'm looking forward to your maiden report! I'm hoping to get mine ready before the new year, not planning on rushing it. What sort of propulsion system are you using?

Guys if interested in the P-51D and the Jap Zero offerings from TopRCModel. I've just released them for sale on our site. Gator-RC is the exclusive importer for these planes in North America.

Thanks for your patience. I think those who obtain one will feel it's worth the wait.

Yes, for next year, towards the end, the Manufacturer has the F4U Corsair in 86" 1/5 scale, and the FW190A in same size. The Corsair, like the Zero, will be offered in 1/4 scale as well with a 110" wing.. Release times are still not available.

I will say this, Magnum RC has the experience to help you design the plane from front to back and will be there for you after you buy. These are the best value that exists that we know of... Everyone who has received, have been over the top delighted..The manufacturer of these airframes are Artists in their work reducing weight in the full composite design.

Thanks Gus Phillips
Gus is a top dealer for TopRCModels thru Gator-RC these planes and his input to us has always been of great value and much appreciated. His pricing and ours are the same.
The cost of shipping these huge boxes may scare some off. To be very honest I can't really help much on this as the costs are real.
If anyone in Canada, Hawaii or Alaska needs a plane give us a call and we will be glad to see what we can do on getting a plane to you as best we can.
The Spitfire shipping is more reasonable as the boxes are smaller and fall under the 130" Dimensional weight penalty.
It's the way the size of the box is calculated. The formula is height and width x 2 plus the length. If this exceeds 130 inches the costs soar dramatically.
As the brand grows and we fully expect it to the offerings will too. It takes a great length of time to develop and bring to market new offerings.
Then the process of placing an order to taking delivery too can be a while.
TopRCModel has great capacity to make things happen very quickly.
One other item of note on these planes is the packing. After opening the top lid on the box the entire contents pulls straight up with 100% of the contents attached to foam formers.
This makes disassembly a breeze. It also allows an extra level of protection.
Here is a link to the TopRCModel website where you can get a better look at what they have going on.
http://www.toprcmodel.com/
Our next container shipment is about to be placed and we will be receiving the new Jets they have been developing as well as more Zero's P-51's and Spitfires.
Thanks for all the support we have received so far with this new venture.

I am still trying to decide on power for my Spitfire. I want either gas or electric. Has anyone flown it as electric and if so what equipment did you go with?

Going gas in my case, so no help for you...I think one of the prototypes was flown on electric...would think Gus or someone might be able to help.

I'm about to mount the engine and fuel tank myself. Also figured mounting the tailwheel close out panel with the CJM tailwheel installed (the CJM version has the yoke press fit onto the shaft, unlike the TOP RC version which is held on by a set screw). Three options:

1. Pull the tailwheel shaft out of the linkage, cut hole in panel insert tailwheel shaft through hole in panel, hook back up to linkage (2 set screws) with panel rotated 90deg, then rotate panel in place. I think this option would prove to be a huge PITA, and may not be workable at all.

2. Cut a slot along the long axis from aft end to point where tail wheel shaft comes through.

3. Split the panel along short axis at point where tail wheel shat comes through. I think this would be the cleanest/easiest option.

Some years back I received a rather large box from a supplier in Seattle. The best deal in shipping was via Greyhound Bus. Have you explored this option?

Hi LifeR
No not really but if a buyer was so inclined to set up their own deal I'd be willing to take the planes to a Greyhound depot for them.
Hey JP Flier my Spitfire is all electric.
The earlier parts in the thread go over the setup.
Himax 210Pro motor, Power Unlimited 6000 mAh 5S packs x 2 in series and Castle Creations Edge HV80 ESC 19x12 APC. That's how I power mine. We manufacturer a unique lipo tray system for this plane also. BooQuoo Power
If you need guidance let me know.
Thanks, Mike Mueller

The mustang and zero will they have provisions for electric power? More specifically ability to change batteries without having to take off the wing?

How are they holding up in hot days. Does the composite oilcan or weaken. I did notice one at an event and the plastic interior desorted in sun inside canopy, pilots seat headrest had droped (fallen) over
