Nice
Interesting comment about the tip stalling. My first flight was pretty awful because I never checked the CG. It was very tail heavy and most planes would have crashed. This plane was so stable that it allowed me to get it down with no damage. Trust me the plane should have crashed.
I learned how stable it was and it's great now that the CG is proper.
I have about half a dozen of the first gen Spits in stock. They are the ones without the invasion stripes.
I've extended the sale on these till we run out. It's a 10% discount so $629 till we run out. Then the price on the Invasion stripe planes will be $779.
There's not a great deal of difference besides small aesthetics.
Thanks, Mike Mueller

Thank you all for your kind words.

I put in a couple more flights yesterday (with canopy, working retracts and painted / riveted spinner).

On the second flight I noticed some yaw oscillation without any rudder input and momentarily thought I might have hit some thermal turbulence, but after landing I found the cause:

The kit's point hinges seem to have an issue with the metal pin - it vibrates off the hinge!
If you're building this kit either replace them with Robarts or secure the pin with tape

Wow! That's something to watch closely! I already glued mine...not sure if I can get in there to secure it... When you secured your horizontal stab, did you put screws in both C/F rods (forward and aft)?

Screws in the front one only, with the dowel inside the carbon tube. I'm checking this before each flight, no problems there.

That's how I have mine...have it marked and ready to go if I decide to put them in the aft rod, but maybe not necessary...

Hey all, it's been a while since I checked in, but I've made a lot of progress on my spit. My work is not nearly as polished or elegant as W1nd6urfa's, but it's functional. Once I get her maidened, I can circle back and go over how it happened. There have been a few challenges, but after I got the stab squared away, nothing major. I did my first airbrush work in 30 years today, and it came out OK. Paint was a lowes sample using their color match. I then went over it with some rustolium flat clear coat. The spinner is the Dave Brown standard cut for a 4 blade biela

Just started on mine. Is the Dave Brown spinner pretty close?

In hindsight, I think it's closer than the one they sold me with the ARF. I'm out of town right now, but I'll post pix of both spinners mounted so you can see the difference.

Anyone was crazy enough to fit a DLE 55RA in this TOPRC Spitfire-Mk IX?

Check out page 8 of this thread...Chris923 put one in his. Incidentally, I was just in your neck of the woods, in Saverne 2 days ago.

JP, I took the photos with the different spinners and will get them posted tonight.

Here are the spinner photos... First is the two blade spinner included with the ARF, the second is the Dave Brown 4 blade, and the third is a full scale spit for comparison.

Should have mine maidened before the end of the month!

Hello Gents, Can anyone post his flight control throws. Just start to built my Spitfire it is nowhere in the instructions.
Anyone fitted the E-FLITE 95* gears on this baby? I damaged my H9 Spit and was going to buy another one but they are backorder... Lucky me…this Spitfire from TOPRC is, I think, a better product for similar money. I had those retract on the H9 Spit at first glance they will fit with some filing and relocating 2 anchoring screw hole on the mounting lips.

Marv, use the same throws as you had on the H9. Both Spitfires are almost identical in size and you can adjust the throws to your liking after the maiden flight.

Look at the huge bite/pitch of the prop in the third photo, wow!

So, I've had to put 42oz in the nose (on the firewall)to get it very slightly nose heavy at a balance point of 130mm back from the leading edge. That seems to be a bit much. Only things I have aft of the 130mm point are my elevator and rudder servos (and linkage) everything else is at or forward of that point.

Can those who have flown it so far tell/show me where they marked the CG balance point?

I believe the amount would be needed. I had to add 40 ozs. I didn't believe it. So I balanced at at 150 mm with 20 oz. Upon take off the plane was so tail heavy it was uncontrollable. It didn't survive. My plane had a dle 55 and I thought I wouldn't need that much weight in the nose. I was wrong. My advice to you is balance it at 120mm.

I'm sorry to hear that! Glad I asked...sounds like 42oz is right... Maybe I'll add a bit more for the maiden. Are you going to get a replacement?

I didn't care for the composite construction. I am waiting for the hangar 9 spit in September.
