Good advice on the gear blocks.... Judging from what happened to yours it doesn't look like they used enough wood ....did it all go back together good? That link I sent you for Sierra gear is where I buy a lot of my gear. Darrell is the owner and designer/builder and all of his stuff is very scale and tough as nails. He ships overseas and yes, his gear are expensive but they will take the punishment

Thanks for posting all your pics Sonnich it's been very helpful. I don't have the model yet since I am waiting for the container to arrive from China to the US distributor ....if you wouldn't mind could you give me some measurements on the main gear mounts in the wing ?? I would like the measurements of the opening between the gear rails and the length of the gear rails. I'm trying to see if the Sierra yak gear will fit without destroying the structural integrity of the gear mounts. As you have pointed out they are already weak and need reinforced and I wouldn't want to cut too much away to weaken it further. It would be nice if the Sierra gear will fit
Thanks for your help Sonnich

Hi Jimmy

Sorry for the late reply.
But I have burried the plane in winter storage for now after I cleaned up my place, so its a bit difficult to get to the wings and get the measurements for you......sorry :-)

You can see the nose of the plane at the wing tip of the Pitts, and the wings are against the wall behind my jets...... :-(

I need to sell some stuff :-)

Hi all,

I am in the process of assembling the CY Yak 3U and I am interested to hear from your experiences with the build.

I would like to fit the Evolution 7-160cc radial to my plane but I am unsure if this will be too heavy and or increase wing loading too much.

Any of you out there fitted a Moki 150 or Evo 160 to one of these CY Yak 3u's?

Looking forward to getting this flying.Steve

Hi Jimmy,

Yes I intend to use the stock landing gear but I have fitted Lado electric units to these.

I have already glued in the landing gear cut outs and just noticed they are over driving at retraction. I have read the posts about installing wedges and was planning to go down this route anyway to overcome this problem.

My only concern is if I fit the Evolution 160 I am concerned about the wing loading increasing substantially as I do not want to make the plane to fast. I intend to fly in scale competitions.

Thanks for your help and suggestions!

no problem at all with the moki 150, 250 or evo 160.

If you put the servos in the intended position in the tail, and you build a scale cockpit, you will need lead in the nose to balace anyway if you use a too light an engine.

I will be picking up the Evo 160 tonight.

The dimensions of the motor can be found here - http://www.evolutionengines.com/Prod...0-Drawings.pdf

Is this what you are after?

I am considering using the Sierra landing gear rather than the stock gear and I'm trying to find out if they will fit the existing gear block openings in the wing. I won't receive my Yak until March so I don't have the wings to make the measurement
thanks for the help Oz

Nice to see that this thread is still alive. I have also this kit and I'm still gathering all the Equipment for it.
She will be powered with a DLE 111 fitted with Krumscheid kanister exhaust.
Retracts are the Electron ER-50eVo with Behotec struts.

We meanwhile vacuformed a replacement canopy since the original one seems to be to weak.

The CY models plastic is very brittle, and will crack very easy when you try to cut out the canopy, and other plastic parts.
I cut all the plastics under hot water from the kitchen tap. It softens the plastic, and it wont crack.

Will have heaps of power with teh DLE 111 :-)

Hi Sonnich,

Go for the Electron ER-50eVo with Behotec struts. They will cost you some money but the will last for a very long time.
I didn't start construction yet. Will be for next winter. If you have any pictures, especially from the internal setup, please post them!
Any nasty tendencies during the landing approach?

Patrick
