Thank you. I'll have to wait until spring unfortunately. My field doesn't open up again until March, which is ok. I'm not much for cold weather flying anymore.

Im really looking forward to flying it. I love the way the mustang and FW flies and I've heard this one is even better.

I still have to do the panel lines, rivets and weathering. I'm thinking of adding the drop tank and either rocket launchers or bombs to the wings as well. Has anyone done the rockets like those shown on this plastic model?

Has any one had a problem with engine vibration causing the hatch to come off?. I had to add a servo operated latch to mine.

Question for those of you who have flown these. Does the cowl need to be opened up any more to exhaust the hot air, or is it ok as is?

I only open the cowl on the bottom sufficiently to allow the exhaust pipe to clear. The cowl flaps are molded in the open position and that has proven to be adequate.

The maiden flight on my P-47 was a success! The Jug is a sweetheart. Mine is powered by a DLE61 and the Robart electric retracts worked flawlessly for a complete day of flying.

I just received my kit and will be using electric power. Plan to use an E-Flite Power 360, with a Castle 160HV esc.Will use 12s (6s2p) 8000mah battery pack, and a 24x12 or 24x14 prop.

I'm going for electric too. Can't decide if the Rimfire 65cc or the Power 360 is in the future. I like that the 360 has the multi-hole prop mounting. Let us know what you think of the 360, and if you could, give us some power figures (V, I, & W) for the prop you settle on. Also let us know how well those 8000's fit.

I noticed you are using the hatch. Are your magnets strong enough to hold it down for flight?

Yes. I've done some aerobatics with the plane (point rolls, loops, emmelmans) and the hatch has stayed on.

Update: The hatch doesn't always stay on. I was doing knife edge passes with the plane and the hatch came off. Will look into a better way of securing it.

Motor and ESC mounted. Battery tray also installed and batteries set in to check fit. Batteries can be slid a bit further forward or back, if need be, to help with balance.

And this set up is comparable to what size GAS? Total cost for Motor Speed Control and 3 set's of batteries. what's the fight time to 25% battery left approx. Do U employ Bomb/Tank releases and Pylons?


OH this was the Maiden flight and right fell of when the gear was deployed ... didn't even get a grass stain.
I'm using a Aurora 9 w/ 9 channel Optima receiver and have 10 channels used (Combined the Idle cut off with the Gun strobes). Anyway by going electric I would save the choke channel and make it a bomb release. I have another airframe (Not in Tar Heel scheme) that was electric I might go back to that if ?????

Battery Hatch I take it? Is this topside in front of the Wind Screen? How do U activate it if there is no battery in Plane can U Provide close up and details of Latch mechanism? I need to keep the belly pan separate (Not fixed to the wing) because I have the Relay and 9 volt batteries for the Gun Strobes. on the bottom of the wing. I've been tapeing the Belly pan in place but that leaves tape residue. Pain to remove residue too.

E-Flite claims 60cc equivalent. I have not run this, however the guy I purchased from was flying it on a 96" ET Mustang with a 26x12 prop. I am going to try a 24x12, or 24x14 prop. I expect about 8-10+ min with 25%+ left in packs.
Not sure about a bomb drop, but belly pan on this kit is designed to be removable, and I understand a drop tank it is available.

I see you had to tape the hatch....there has to be a better way.....

Here's a few more pictures of my hatch hold down. The white sliding latch goes under the former just in front of the windshield.

I plan on using CCFPilot's method or using stronger magnets. Haven't bothered addressing it yet because I've been having so much fun flying the plane.

Two additional negatives: 1.) My gear door has ripped off in flight. 2.) Make sure you periodically take a iron to the covering near the wheel well, otherwise it'll come off in flight.
