Default Brian Taylor BF-109e (1971) 61" scaled to 82" wingspan

In March of 1971 the British magazine "Radio Modeller" published an build article by Brian Taylor, the Messerchmitt Me.109e, 61" wingspan. This summer a r/c club mate gave an built airframe from these plans along with the plans and the magazine to warbird buddy Randy H. Randy H took the airframe and put a DLE 20cc gasser on the 109 and the BT 109 flew great. .

Since my trip to Duxford this past July, I've been thinking about a Bf-109 and with that in mind I've decided to scale up the original Brian Taylor Bf / Me 109 plans to 82" wingpan and start this 109 project.

I've chosen 82" WS because my Skyshark P-40 is 82", and I like warbirds in the 50cc range, they fly good and fit in my truck. I'm sure it will take me a couple of years as I have a few projects ahead of the 109 but I wanted to share this magazine article with you. cheers - ken k.

It is a good size. I am building a 1/4.5 scale, 86" Me109E from the Jeff Foley molds and templates.

Thats one nice fuselage, what will you use for an engine on the Jeff Foley 1/4.5 scale, 86" Me109E..

So far I've gotten the plans scanned and into Corel Draw, and have been changing how I want to hinge the ailerons and adding flaps, as I'm drawing its given me a feel for how BT would build this model up.

Foley won Top Gun several times with this design. The original used a Moki 1.80, and then a 2.10. His last one had a DA50. Mine will have a G-62.

Wow, I started with the same plans but scaled it up to 81". Project has been on hold since I tore the meniscus in my knee in 2 places. This is motivating me to get back in the saddle again.

Spinner I picked up for is was from Troy Built Models for the ESM P-39 Aircobra. 5" in diameter and looks just right for this model.
Troybuilt Models seems to have fallen off the face of the earth, but others are still carrying the ESM line.

Hi, nice Bf-109!
I've only built a bit of the horizontal stab on mine as I'm working on a Platt Zero. Please post updates as you work on yours. Thanks for the tip on the ESM P-39 spinner.
I'll post most of my pics on a Kpk warbirds FB album at https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1670355256520484&type=1&l=a3cb9a982d

and my corel files are on google drive if any one canuse them at https://drive.google.com/drive/folde...3FlbqWWR3vIz1P

Hope you knee gets better - did you trip on a old ST3000 laying on the shop floor?

cheers - ken

Funny, I have a Platt Zero plan pack still in a box. Platt Bf109 plan pac also not started and a Platt P-51B framed up. Planning on giving the Platt P-51 a nose job from drawings I got from Chad Veich right here in RCU. Chad has beautiful drawings - highly detailed.
Didn't trip over my ST3000, its still NIB right next to the ST4500 NIB. I did my knee in coaching high school baseball. Was hitting fly balls to my outfielders in center field and catching them on the hop bare handed down the 3rd base line. Some how I found a 6" sprinkler system cover plate that was off and when I stepped in that spot my knee sounded like a 12 guage shot gun going off. Spent the rest of the season on a bucket with a score book. Came back the next season and was restricted to the bucket with the score book. Not fun any more so I quit coaching. I finally had the surgery back in the spring and hung up my cane. Now I watch my grand daughters. 10yrs and 19months.
