Default Detailing my second 1/8 scale Top Flite P-47

I built my first 1/8 Top Flite P-47 ages ago and really enjoyed flying it in a scale like manner or like a vintage pattern ship what a great performer it was. Then as happens in this hobby from time to time with us all it went down and I NEVER found it. I also built a G?S Top Flite P-47 covered in Flite Metal and replicating Col. Robert S. Johnsons last natural Aluminum finished Thunderbolt called "Penrod&Sam . I'm not flying it this season, and it appears on the Flite Metal website,in the customer gallery under "REBEL'S How to @ www.flitemetal.com

Since I'm doing my second 1/7 scale in Olive drab replicating an earlier P-47 flown Col. Robert S. Johnson, I'm doind the surface detail using 1/64" Chart Pack tape available from Amazon,as well as Flite Metal to replicate hatches etc.

Finished the panel lines today so its time to apply light coats of grey Klasscote primer sanding back down to the panel lines. This process is new to me and that is why I'm posting it.

Actually, like the Top Flite Corsair, the P-47 kit is much closer to 1/8 scale than 1/7.

Built mine (ARF version) as P-47D-28-RA ser# 42-28615 (built at the Evansville, IN plant), WZ-X "My Baby" piloted by Lt. Robert A Laho of the 84th Ftr Sq, 78th FG

Default More pictures taking pictures is the easy part

Here are some more photos of the panel and hatch detail . I planned to add more primer to bring out the Chart Pack 1/64" panel lines but it seems likely to rain here in Maryland and we need it.

Okay here are a couple pics that show how the detailing went after applying several light coats of grey Klass Kote primer . The canopy was painted with Klass kote olive drab mixed with satin hardener and is totally glossy so I will have to look around for a more suitable olive drab which must be fuel proof any suggestions greatly appreciated.

You might try rubbing the Klass Kote with steel wool to knock the shine off of it.

We had great weather in Maryland earlier this week so I sprayed the Klass Kote neutral grey using their dead flat added to the mixture and it worked great. to the under surfaces

I scan mine at a very high resolution. If going from 1/48 to 1/8, I would scan at 6 X 'normal', maybe 72 (which used to be 'normal) x 6. Then use image edit software to enlarge image to 'normal'/ 72dpi while maintaining file size.

Default I managed to apply the "beauitiful Olive Drab"

Just before dawn as has become my custom ,I looked out at the trees and NO WIND,so out came my Fly Zone Air Core P-51 Miss America and my ME-109 and I got in a couple good flights before the Sun got above the horizon (Like my R/C club it faces East so got to get out early) Well next the weather was cooperating so out with the 1/8 P-47,after completing the masking I proceeded to spray the Klass Kote olive drab with a bit of their flattener added. Things went pretty well ,with the panel lines showing up fairly well. here are a couple pictures.

Default Beautiful olive drab

I get the impression that if it is not giant scale it is not interesting but what the heck as I stated at the start of this thread I wanted another 1/8 scale P-47...

The panel lines show pretty well.; I have decided to use a DLE 20 RE for power, and I'm ordering a fiberglass cowl which I will have to modify.
