Looks great, very good work.
I am getting ready to paint a p-51 I am building from a plan. Got it primed and the cockpit done. It will be my first try with klass kote. I have used K&B I read It is close to the same stuff. Man it is expensive compared to the last time I bought K&B products. As for why build, I love the building part of the hobby. I have couple of ARF's but it's no way the same to me, no pride in ownership. Anybody can just buy an arf, but I find fewer and fewer have the skill to build.

I am he process of putting together a CARF 1/4.5 scale P-47. I am not sure I like the silver gel coat that it comes with and am contemplating painting it with something that more resembles the bare aluminum skins (NOT highly polished). I am not familiar with all of the paint systems out there, does Klass Kote offer a good aluminum color? Is this paint fuel-proof? easy to spray?
I am doing the "Bonnie" scheme. Yes, I know, been done LOTS!! But I like the splash of color the red/white and blue stripes add AND the kill markings marquee on this aircraft just cant be beat! 15 Japanese aircraft, 30+ bomb strikes, and two ships!
Any info on the Klass Kote paints will be very helpful!

Yes Klass Kote is fuel proof,and IF Your spray equiptment is set up and the spray gun adjusted properly with regard to "fan" and properly thinned its excellent for our R/C aircraft in my opinion. Regarding the mixing process its 1-1 paint and catalyst ,will mixed a sealed jar works great for this. I want to recommend Then pouring the mixture in another jar ,which leaves any un mixed epoxie on the inside surfaces of the jar.(I obtained this information from a David Platt video) now let the mixture sit for Aprox. 30 minutes AND then thin the mixture per Klass Kote's directions. I recommend a good quality HLVP touch up gun;taking the time to adjust the gun properly (per manufactures directions;finally it makes good sense to test the sprayed mixture on a suitable surface to ensure all is well before starting to spray your airplane.

Yes Klass Kote has a good aluminum color. Klass Kote has an additive available to reduce the sheen thus avoiding the finish looking highly polished Klass Kote is most certainly fuel proof . Finally Klass Kote is easy to spray providing you have properly mixed the paint and by that I mean to first mix the = parts A & B ,and then pour mixture into another jar let the mixture sit about 30 minutes and then thin at least 1-1 with the correct reducer . Regarding spray equipment use an HLVP touch up gun and finally test spray on a suitable surface to ensure the paint viscosity is correct along with the fan pattern which should come with the directions for Your chosen spray gun. Finally for spraying smaller parts I get excellent results with an air brush,I use a Paashe double action one.

Preparing to make stencils
I've had the 1/48 scale decals for the version I'm doing . I had them enlarged at a 'blue print shop locally and will begin the stencil making process. I FINALLY ordered the DLE 20 RE and do look forward to installing it. I think it will be much easier than the O.S. 120 4/C W/ pump that powered my first Top Flite Gold edition 1/8 scale P-47.

Confirming the markings are correct
I could not resist seeing how the markings would look and they seem to be close enough,so next I will mask and paint,what appears in pictures is simply a cut out of the enlarged markings covered in my last post. I'm kind of enth
used with how my "little" 1/8 scale P-47 is working out. I'm waiting for the engine and cowl to arrive ,especially after seeing a DLE in operation yesterday at the club field,and the subsequent talk with the operator.

Could not wait for stencils so I'm doing them from scratch.
Here are a couple pictures, as progress continues. I'm planning to finish masking the stars and spray them,weather permitting. I hope this Thunderbolt handles 
as well as my last (1/8 scale Top Flite Gold Edition Thunderbolt)

Have the 56th FG markings masked
I have the group markings masked as well as the white stripes that appear on the vertical and horizontal tail surfaces. I received my custom cowl yesterday from fiberglass specialties and could not be more pleased--

Weather cooperated sprayed the white
I must say 3 M clear contact paper sheets works well for me however I hold the sheet in place around the perimeter of the clear paint masks ,just see photos and you will see what I'm trying to say. Well looking at masking and painting the yellow circle around the perimeter of the fuselage insignias. In the mean time I will see what i can accomplish with regard to mounting the DLE-20 RE,one thing for sure it all fits in the cowl and i like that. Looking forward to the test flight on this Thunderbolt

The weather was un cooperative yesterday so I started to mount my new DLE-20 RE it ALL fits in the cowl,I love it. Well today up early again and tackled the yellow circle that goes around the fuselage insignia.,a bit later today I will remove the ton of masking paper and tape

more painting and DLE-20 RE installation
weather cooperated yesterday so I sprayed on the yellow that goes around the perimeter of the fuselage insignia. This morning fitted the DLE-20 RE and began install ,the cowl swallows op the DLE -20RE I think I'm going to like this engine and air frame combination.

got a replacement canopy in the mail today and will get this one right,cutting out a clear canopy is always a challenge for me. Since it is still raining I'm finishing up the engine installation and have the fiberglass cowl ready to paint in beautiful olive drab

I was planning a test flight on New Years Eve weather permitting as all that was left to have the 47 flight ready was to finish the flap installation.Well so much for that idea as our club field is now closed thru at least Jan 15 2016 those darned flying insects are really problematic and put us fixed wing R/C pilots on the F.A.A. radar so I will keep up with the detailing and slow down a bit on this project while I wait and see whats next thanks to the idiot drone pilots!!! Well one ray of Sun shine where I live I can legally continue flying my small electrics..
