I am ready to paint my Dave Platt FW190 and have to decide if I should put a Swastika on the fin. My father was killed in WWII during the Battle of the Bulge, therefore I have a very good reason to hate what that symbol stands for. I do not think it is in poor taste to display this symbol on a scale model but I do not want to insult or anger anyone. I am asking for opinions on this matter.
Thanks, P51Tom

Tom,
There were some Schlactgruppen 190's with overpainted tails that might solve any hesitation about doing a scale scheme for you.

You can find these schemes with a little digging and the reasons behind the overpainting. Maybe this helps

Anther option is to do a replica or flugenworks (spelling) replica FW-190 in Germany. The swastica is replaced with the German flag. Ihere are two pics if the same plane . First In Germany, second after transfer to the U.S. at Military Aviation Museum with the correct markings applied.

I was stationed in Germany and bought a bunch of kits at one time (plastic models) and when I opened them all the Germany unit markings and such had been cut out of the decal sheets. I know a lot of that stuff is illegal to display over there but I thought it was OK in historical context. So when I build them I'm going to have to buy a bunch of after-market decals.

There are alternatives to the markings of the original owners:

For a 109, I wouldn't use a Nazi swastika... I'd do something like:
If you are doing a German one, put the swastika on it - or leave it out completely. Just don't put some silly placeholder graphic in its place.
