Just about any servo you can fit will work fine. Keep in mind you'll want to make sure the arm is fairly straight when the tailwheel is down to minimize stress on the gear train. Also, if you have weight on the tail when trying to drop the gear down it's possible to overload the servo.

I think the 5087MG is about as light as you can get and still have enough power for the job, as well as metal gears. Not that a quarter ounce is any big deal, you can add a couple more ounces of lead to the nose and it's all the same.

Finally had mine out today since last fall. It had to come in for a valve adjustment (maintenance) on the Evo 777. The plane is so graceful and elegant in flight , just love it more and more with each flight.
The 7-77 is running strong with the menjlik 21x12 3blade.

Do you have to order the larger cowl separately? I don't see an option when ordering to specify the larger cowl and I'm guessing no one is opening the box to swap our cowls from the factory before shipping or do they now ship standard with the larger cowl?

Along the same lines, does the 'old, stock' cowl allow for the EME 70 with starter motor to fit without hacking up the cowl for the motor? If the old cowl doesn't work, does the new cowl allow for the eme 70 starter motor to fit without hacking it up?

I guess while I'm at it, what new warbirds are coming down the road soon from Top RC? Seems like they are due for something new.

thx!

Could anyone with the electric retracts share the footprint dimensions for the mounting plate and screw locations? I want to compare them with the Robart 635 I have.
thanks

Footprint is 45x55, mounting holes are 31x45. Longer dimensions are the chordwise measurement.

Changed the tail wheel today and added some paint.

OK, post 186 says the Saito fits the cowl without mods. great! Does one still have to add nose weight or is it heavy enough to avoid that too?

thx.

Is the Robart electric gear the better system over the legacy electric gear that Mike sold and had the controller box issue? Robart eliminates the servo in the tail which I wasn't crazy about and it seems to have nicer wheels.

See post #209, which indicates little to no nose weight is needed with a Saito radial and batteries all the way forward.

what's you total weight, minus fuel? Were you able to avoid adding any dead weight for balance purposes? Where are your batteries?

I have the Saito 90 on the way which is why I am very curious how your installation went and what you had to do to hopefully avoid adding any dead weight.

thanks

Don't worry so much about the weight. Plan the install the best you can and if it needs weight it needs weight. It'll carry it fine.

No thanks on that unsolicited advise, not how I 'roll' :-) I always like a lighter plane.

As always, it's worth what you pay for it. My point is that if you can build it without requiring nose weight, great. If not, are you going to not fly it? I'm building mine with an FG-84 and if it needs nose (or tail) weight to balance I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.

do me a favor, don't worry about if I'm losing sleep. I didn't ask you what your building or flying habits are and I don't care. Don't need a forum nanny trying to read my mind and 'helping me' when I ask someone specifically else questions. Thx.
