Default Help with attaching clear part to canopy!

I am getting ready to attach the clear part to the canopy for my composite arf. Can I still use the pacer 560 white canopy glue, or is it better to use a different adhesive? Thanks in advance for your help.

Hello - I have been in and out of the hobby for the past 25 years and always dreamed of having a giant scale gas warbird. Back in the day, I would look at the magazines of the Byron Originals, Yellow Aircraft, etc thinking how cool and awesome it would be to have and fly one of those some day. When top rc came out with their line of composite warbirds, I was totally intrigued and finally decided enough dreaming and took the plunge and got me one of these bad boyz... Still in awe how cool and massive this Zero is, and makes building it that much cooler. I also purchased the Top rc electric retracts.

This thread has been a life saver (thanks hot rod todd and others), and it is the manual for me, not a supplement to the online manual. the online manual is a supplement to the info here. I will need some assistance along the way, and no intention to hijack this thread and would be happy to start a new one if needed.

My questions now relate more to the radio system (and later the engine/ignition) for the top rc zero. I plan on the EME 70 twin when I get to that part (also since there is great guidance in this thread on that install). I have a spektrum DX9 radio that I have had for a few years now, and feel comfortable (for the most part) with the programming features of the radio. I understand it is preferable to try to have a channel in the Rx for each servo, is that correct? After a bit of research, I am still trying to figure out the "best" configuration for the servos and which spektrum receiver to purchase for the Zero considering I have a 9 channel radio. I understand that there are multiple configuration options, but I am looking at something that makes sense and practical for my situation/radio.

so the number of servos:
ailerons -2
flaps - 2
elevator - 2
rudder - 1
throttle - 1
ignition/kill switch - 1 ?
rear tail gear - 1
I don't plan in installing the door gear door/clams as of now.
remote starter for engine that is offered on the EME 70 (recommended?) - 1
Others - did I miss anything?

If my math is right, that would be 11 servos assuming I don't install the smaller gear doors. My understanding is to avoid Y harnesses or reverse Y harnesses, and try to use the channels in the receiver. If needed to combine servos if I don't have enough channels, use a matchbox or something similar? For the DX9, what would be a recommended Rx and for how many channels - spektrum has a 12 channel receiver - could this be used and if so, are the separate ailerons (or flap or elevator) servos put into a separate channel in the receiver, would each control only count as "one" channel on my transmitter, eg, one channel for aileron, one for flaps, one for elevator even though I may be using 6 on the Rx? Or, lets say I use a 9 channel Rx, would it be ok to use the matchbox for the two flap servos, or elevators, or ailerons (or does it matter which). so I am now contemplating how many channels in the Rx I should be looking at and suggestions/recommendations/guidance there?

Side note on the build - the stabilizer has a few of the round hinges that are shorter on the side that go into the stab. I realized one was for the narrow end of the stabilizer on both sides and figured a few others were cut short for no reason, until I put the tube in stabilizer to join them and the tube would not go in all the way - funny - got it fixed but found out the hard way why there were more than two short hinges. either I missed that in the manual, or it wasn't there or not thinking ahead.

sorry for the lengthy post, and certainly appreciate any assistance. thanks in advance!

If you have a 9 channel transmitter then thats how many outputs you have no matter how many channels you have in the RX so you can either use Y-harnesses or match boxes.

Use a Y on the ailerons and a Y or machbox on the flaps and you're there. I'd use a 9010 or if you want to run 2 receiver packs (i would) then a 9 channel power safe. Gear doors are usually run on the gear controller so really thats only one channel.

thank you barracuda, very helpful.. it appears for the 9 channel receiver from spektrum's current offerings anyway are the AR9030 or AR9350 (as3x) for one battery pack, or the AR9140T for two pack/power safe Rx. For the battery considerations, I am looking at 2 life 2s, 6.6v, 2200 mah each for the two pack receiver - would these be sufficient? same question if I opted for the one pack Rx - would one 2200 mah suffice?

Also, would the 2200 mah life be sufficient for the retracts, and for the ignition assuming I don't use an IBEC for the ignition and the receiver battery. so 4 total batteries, 2s life, 6.6v 2200 mah each. Then one more for the EME engine if I opt for the remote starter - 5 total in that case.

thanks again, appreciate it

Will a 55cc be enough for this zero?

Thanks.

I have a 60cc Hangar 9 that runs on a 12 channel power safe with a pair of 2500 mah A123 packs. They power the rx, Ignition through an IBEC, and retracts, no issues, 3 or 4 flights and I charge.

Personally with that model I would go with that configuration and a battery for the starter.

For those who have flown the TopRC Zero I have a couple questions. 1. Is 20M (each way) enough throw on the rudder? I am getting this measurement from the middle of the rudder. Question 2. Where should I be getting the measurement? Any HELP appreciated.
Thanks,
Gary

I think 40mm is what is recommended on rudder. Now, most of us can not get that much throw on the model, so just get as much as you can. Use a larger arm on the servo if possible.
Mine has 30-35 at best.

I changed my rudder set up and cut a hatch into the fin and installed a direct drive servo and I am able to get plenty of travel.

Hi, would you mind taking a picture of your rudder setup and posting it?

Tim's flys fine, I don't think it needs a bunch of rudder travel unless you're trying to do knife edge passes.

Hey guys,

Crazy weekend and just getting back to normal, well for a few days.

Sorry no videos that I know of or have seen from NEAT of the Zero.

Here are the only pics I have with me right now of where I cut the hatch for the rudder and what it looks like before I made the cut out for the Servo Arm. Hope this helps a little bit.

For those of you who are using the Saito FG84R3/FG90R3, where are you placing the ignition box? Any pictures? Thanks.

Hey Dan,
I'm talking with the guys at Hacker. They are suggesting the A-100 like yours. ... how well did it fly?

Thanks,

jim

Hi Jim,

My set up is as follows:

Hacker A100-8
Castle 160HV Ice
Flight Power 6s 10,000mah times 2 in order to make 12s
Falcon Carbon 22x12 Gas prop

I use just under 1,000 mah per min. I expect 8 min with a cushion being no problem at all. Flies great, and tons of power!!

Most are cutting a hole at the top of the firewall above the engine mounting box. Ignition goes on the inside of fuselage near hole.

Very cool. Where did you mount the lipos? Did you have any balancing challenges?

thanks,

Please see the picture for the lipo location. No issues with balance, it was good there.
