That would not work with the new gear. When the wheel is in the well, the strut scissor is too propionate and holds the gear door off. The scissor on the Robart is flatter. I'm glad to have the original struts.

Guys as many of you know these planes are brought in exclusively to the North American market thru two of my companies.

The best place to buy the planes is thru Caiman Distribution a jointly owned company between myself and Robart Mfg.
Tower Hobbies was at one time selling the 3 Warbirds thru us on their site and to their dealer network Great Planes.
They still have the listings up but they will not be selling planes for us in the future as you are surely aware of the reasons. If you may have been waiting for Tower to get new stock I promise you it will not happen.
All I can say is ouch. And trust me I am not alone. Their issues have hurt a lot of good companies. For the people who work there, I am very grateful for the relationships we formed. They really have fantastic employees.
I have some dealers situated in various locations that are stocking and selling for us.
The best bet if you want one is to contact me. I have a pretty good inventory with next day shipping in most cases.

Hi all,

Can anyone tell me if the stock fuel tank is ok to use? Whats the idea with the metal ring. Im used to assemble such tanks with a bolt in the middle, that tighten the rubber insert for airtight fit.

I originally installed the tank that was supplied with the plane, however, like you, I was questionable as to the reliability of it. I found a tank from Valley View RC, a 32oz version that basically fit right in there and seems to be a much better set-up. Hope this helps .

Update on my FG 84. Engine is starting to run great. Baffles (in middle of cooling fins), opening up the cowl in the back, and getting rid of cowl ring really helped the airflow. On board telemetry says temps are now 170 F - 190 F. On the ground RPM is 5800 at full throttle. Prop unloads in the air to 7000 rpm. Honestly, flies plenty fast at 6300 RPM. Every so often we get a little burp at the top of a slow victory roll. Not sure what that is...clunk is fine...tank is full. Hmmmm.

I get that same blerp at the top of a loop, but no other issues. Using a 22X12 3blade Folk Wolf scale prop from Biela. Roto Flow tank.

That's the one, other than I use the 2 line version. The one thing I found though was, it's definitely longer and in order to work, you'll need to cut into your cockpit. Not that big of a deal, but just wanted to let you know.

For those of you running the Saito FG 84 or 90 where are you mounting the fuel tank and how big of a tank are you using. Info and pictures would be helpful.

I have both the 90 and 84 RG. They both sip fuel. I use a 24 oz tank with no worries. The picture shows a RotoFlow, but I am also using the 24oz from ValllyRc in the FW 190. If you are using a Keleo Exhaust Ring, you will want positive pressure to the nipple on top of the ring coming from the vent tube on the tank. Do not use regular fuel tubing for this as the exhaust nipple will melt it. Room can be a little tight, so I use yellow to a small fuel filter, then silicone to the nipple. the filter keeps exhaust crap from blowing back into the tank from the ring. Also, make sure you have a filter to the carb even if your fuel can is filtered. I use a filter in the airplane tank (clunk filter) when there is not room for a filter in the fuel line between the tank and carb.

Mine is kinda junky but seems to work with a full depth cockpit. Tried to get as much weight forward. No room under cowl with the Keleo exhaust ring.
Off to the left. (2) 2250mah lipos for Ignition and Retracts.
Off to the right. (2) 2500mah Life batteries for Reciever
Center Above. Ignition for Saito FG 84
I added second servo at bottom of picture for tailwheel.
Gas tank is a Sullivan 24 oz. Way over-kill. We can get (3) seven minute flights on one tank.
Buried under the wires on the right is a Spektrum 20 ch RX.

So, whats been the general consensus on the retract choice for Zero and P51, Robart or Top RCs? Seems the wheels are nicer on Robarts but TopRC has nicer struts? TopRC has mechanical tail wheel vs Robarts electric tail wheel. Opinions?

I have used the TopRC wheels and struts on my Zero for two years now with no problems. The gear doors are set up to fit the TopRc Zero retracts , the Robarts are up to you to figure out and the scissor forks push out against the door with the Robarts. I don't think the Robart gear was actually made for the Zero, but just something that would fit. Also Down and Locked makes a gear for the Zero, you might talk to Mitch about it. I don' know about the P-51.

The struts are fine on the TopRc Zero, but the electric retract is weaker than the Robart retract in my opinion. I prefer the mechanical tail wheel with a small servo. The real discussion is electrics vs air retracts. Both have their plus and minus. Air leaks and non-scale retraction vs weak jack screws components. I go back and fourth depending on my landing...
