Ok- I broke down and got one...gonna be a gasser. I have a few engines in the 30-45cc range that I hope won't shape that suspect wood apart.
i had 2 VQ warbirds back in 2001, and swore them off, but I love this plane. I hope this isn't a mistake.

What's the inside diameter of the cowlling?
I wonder if you could get an RCGH twin 30CC to fit in there...Might help with a need to add noseweight.

That's smaller than I thought...I don't think a 30CC twin would sit under there.
My retracts arrived today, plane is due by Wednesday.

Anything tricky refarding the airbrake set-up ?
How brittle is the canopy? (Tthe ESM ones crack when you bring scissors into the room) I hope to do a similar set up as Uncle joes.

Airbrakes are not hardly mentioned in the 'distructions'....but only remember to use 5 of the same servos, same control arms and of course make sure they all work the way they should - I found their 'marked' locations not to work well, so I moved my servos around so they all could play together.....computer programming was necessary as I have the airbrakes and flaps linked on a separate switch as opposed to the flaps (only) switch.

The canopy hasn't been attacked yet so I don't know how it will react to my knife, but like unclejoe, the front canopy has to be open to be cool

I had no problem with the flaps, used flap switch for flaps(lower) and another switch for the Dive brakes, linkage was no problem, The canopy was easily cut using curved scissors . no brittle at all
Great flying airplane.

Guys WARNING WARNING WARNING WARNING
Had a massive failure with the elevator, even though I pined the hinges ,had both elevators depart the stab. about 200 ft . so control was non existent ended up with a bag of balsa and a big hole in the desert. Will post photos of aircraft with one elevator still attached to servo, and one departed
I checking the hinges that were left it appears that there was no glue on the hinges . Before flight I would PULL OUT ALL HINGES ANS EPOXY & PIn all hinges at least three points

Could I get the diameter of the dummy radial? I'm hunting for something that will fit my 1/9th scale Skyshark Avenger kit I'm working on.

Thanks
Mike

Did NOT HEAR any sound that usually occurs when one has flutter, but could have been . No violent manavours prior to elevators .After examination the remains It appears that there was no glue on any of the stabs hinges ,maybe CA but no apparent glue to wood surfaces . Sure glad I pinned the hinges or might have lost it on prior flights.....

You were pretty high when that happened but a couple of us saw some flutter....now the questions is::

Did the servo give out first? (is it stripped)
Did the pushrod clevis malfunction? (is it even on the pushrod?_
Did the hinges go first. (tough to tell)

Crap Mike, I cut mine up a bit to fit but I'm guessing it was around 7 1/4" in diameter.

Hi Jerry
Servo with the missing elevator(one that departed the stab) has arm & rod , servo works
on the stab that lost the elevator missing two hinges with pins missing and balsa residue .My guess hinges went first but its only a guess
I will get another but will remove hinges and re glue with epoxy ,also update all hardware & use 4-40 push rods
Semper Fi
Joe

It appears that the bass wood blocks delaminated from the plywood mounts even though glued . NEED a screw thru the plywood into the block. Blocks have plywood on them and you can see the plymount mounts have layers removed from them .BTW after removing the covering all the balsa wood joints in the wing / fuselage have CA through out
