Seagull Spitfire 26- 38 cc
Reason why I bought this probably the ugliest ARF Spitfire over the world is that the flight season 2016 is too close and I havenīt any giant warbird! The price is very reasonable, and she hase two pieces wing and elevator.
Because of the allwood construction Iīm awaiting flight weight similar as my ESM Dauntless (7715g).
I have DLE 30, this engine will be perfect in this Spitfire. There are many mistakes. For example shape of the tail, cowl which looks as something between Mk XIV and Mk IX, flaps and the other... but it would be good for flying. Probably I will make some small changes.

New flaps are almost ready. Meantime I cut of the landing gear covering. I suprised that the black stripes are stick labels!
I have two choices with retracts. Both of them are from HK and servoless. The all metal retract is heavier than the plastic one. Both of them are suitable for planes up to 12 kg (33 lbs)So any reason why to use the all metal one?
Anybody has experience or use these retracts?

My first think was the same. The metal one will be heavier but stronger. After them I looked at the details. Both of them are for the planes up to 12 kg!
So, how could it be stronger?

It looks like, the only differences are the weight and price.

When I bought this ARF kit I said, only the put she together and fly her. But I canīt. The cowl is appalling. After two days thinking what to do with it is decided. Make a new one! I use my moulds for B.T. 83" Spitfire cowl and chin scoop and made a new parts. The resin exhaust set is ready
So, which one is better? The new cowl is only 200g (7 ozs).
Now I know, she will be repainted.

169 mm oleo legs ordered, they will arrive during next 3 weeks. http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...9mm_2pcs_.html
I need 160 mm, so no problem for me make them shorter.
I decided for the plastic retracts. Because the HK said, this retract is suitable for planes up to 12 kg. Iīm sure, this Spitfire will be up to 10 kg, so the lower weight retracts will be better. The retracts are already fitted in the wings. Iīm thinking about the wedge the rectracts and get the wheels 20 mm forward.

As I wrote, she will be repainted. Here are some possible paintschemes. The conditions:
1) Czechoslovak SQN
2) Mk. IX with rounded rudder
3) Invasion stripes.
Interesting is marking DU J without the black stripes on the tail. Itīs evident in the first shot. DU L with "window" in the stripes. I found some shots, where we can see, stripes ended before the ailerons.

Sorry for the late reply on the retracts,, I have a set of the metal retracts on a PC21 which weigh's in at around 7.5kg. These have worked faultlessly for over a year and will take a bit of punishment. Go with them mate.

Personally I would stay away from the stripes if possible, they are overdone on about EVERY WARBIRD model you see. Dare to be differ, the stripes pull away much of the classic lines of the Spit., P-47, P-51 and so on.
just my view, 2 cents worth.

Probably the stripes will be good for orientation in the air.
And last think is to make two Spitfires DU L. One with pointed rudder without stripes and the second one with the rounded rudder and with the stripes (last picture).
