NO, I absolutely did not take your comments as suggesting that the kit is crappy - it is my own observation thus far. I think that a split fin and broken windshield are perhaps a mark of shoddy workmanship and possibly inferior materials. I think that any manufacturer who tries to offer sort off Comparf quality at about 2/5 the price, is bound to have to cut some corners in order to eek out a profit that will justify staying in business???
Just my 2c.
Don't get me wrong, I placed an order because I thought that this could be a great deal, especially after I had a $168 coupon but they keep pushing delivery further and further South. I just checked the latest update on Tower Hobbies site and now it is pushed to late March. I am starting to get a feeling that they are deliberately trying to encourage people on back order to cancel.
Again, just my 2c.

Speaking of other Warbirds, I love my TF Zero, but recently I saw something fall off of it while I was flying, I brought it around for a low pass to see the plane better and realized a huge sheet of Monokote came off the bottom of the wing. They Monokote up to the wheel well but do not fold it around, so the wind got it and filled the Monokote on the wing like a balloon and ripped it off. You will like an all composite warbird.

This is one of the best ARF P-51 out there. I don't know what Tower you are looking at but they are showing the Gunfighter and Old Crow as in stock. I would get those instead of waiting for the Blondie version.

Well, I managed to have Tower change my order from "Blondie" to "Gunfighter" and I should have it soo enough (I hope). I also placed an order with Gator RC for the Electric Retracts but unfortunately he is out of 2 blade spinners for the P-51.
Does anybody knows if Gator can have a spinner already painted for "Gunfighter"?

I talked to Mike yesterday and was pleasantly surprised to find out that he had a 4 blade spinner for the "Gunfighter".
I have a Valach 60M engine that I hope will fit under the cowl without any part protruding. It is also my plan to change the paint scheme to that of "The Millie G" and use a 24 or 25" 4 blades, ground adjustable Varioprop propeller.

I'll be using the most common, 14985. It will be the easiest to convert from the Gunfighter. There's even the survivor scheme with the yellow name (I prefer the red). Callie graphics will make me some new nose names and the G's for side of the fuse. I believe he even had 4 P-38's with the same name. We might end up with a couple of Millie G's flying around, but many more Gunfighters.
Here's one in the Summer of 1944 with the invasion stripes showing on the belly scoop, I may go with the version that doesn't have the stripes and save myself a bit of work, but they do help the visibility a bit.

Well, I got my "Gunfighter" from Tower last night but it was too late to fully inspect the content. Today I had a chance to do that and to my delight everything looks fine and the windshield is intact, in one piece
When inspecting the tail I found that the seam line from the front base of the fin to about the top was not glued. Same experience as SWK550 found. This is obviously a manufacturing defect, and, I will address it with Hysol 9462, looks like it will be an easy fix.
Overall, the packaging was very, very professional, and the quality is definitely from good. I am very pleased.

The main problem with the leading edge of the rudders is that the rudder hits against the back of the shipping box (look at your box, you'll see where it hit). Any push and the rudder is flexed forward pulling open the seam. In my case there is some other stress to the side, but it's fixable with some Hysol as you mentioned. I informed Tower about the issue, but it won't help until the next batch is boxed up in China (if they fix the problem).

Here are two videos showing the Valach VM60 swinging a 4 blade Biela 23-10 on the bench and the maiden flight. It appears that the prop is turning approx. 5200 RPM.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WFRGbnaUw6c
The P-51 in the video is a Hangar 9 with 89" wingspan - same size as the Top RC. My desire is to spin a 25" scale propeller at the point on the power curve where the engine develops its max. torque. To simulate that I ran E-CALC to see what kind of power is needed.
The analysis suggests that if the Top RC P-51 will be finished at approx. 27 Lbs AUW, a variable pith, 25" 4 blades prop set to 25-35 configuration, will turn 2435 RPM, to produce a level speed of approx. 68 MPH - requiring approx. 2.8 HP (2121 Watts Input Power) to do so.
I think that this will be within the capability of the Valach motor.
In the past I have run a Saito FA220 Nitro 4 Stroke with a 26-10 2-blade prop at 4400 RPM and the engine never overheated.

I got the retracts yesterday from Gator RC and was surprised to find out that they are made by ESM. The thing that I DO NOT LIKE is the fact that the wheels 4-1/2" diameter. They should be 5-1/4" to be scale. Now, I am not sure the wheel wells will even accommodate scale wheels.
Has anyone looked into this?

I heard that only the tires are made by ESM, the retracts are something else and a bit better quality. I had them on my TopRC Zero and they worked fine. I opted for air on the Mustang, so I'll be using Robart 635's with Robart struts. I'll be using 5" wheels to give me some good clearance in the wells, but 5.5" wheels do fit. I believe the full scale mustang wheels are 28" in diameter, meaning that if you're after exact scale the tires would need to be 5.6" (5.5" is plenty close). Scale tail wheel diameter would be 2.5".
