Funny you should ask about the CG. I just put it on the balancer at 13cm and I am extremely tail heavy. I am looking at putting 100 oz in the nose. This doesn't look right. I have a heavy engine/spinner/prop. batteries are on the CG. Other than moving the servos to the tail for the elevator, there is no extra weight in the tail. So, i'm sitting here drinking a Heineken and pondering my next course of action. Weather here is just barely flyable. Warm weather in Wisconsin in April means southwest wind 20-30 mph, not maidening weather.

Weather is so so here in the UK.
If your tail heavy I would put the servos back up the middle of the Fuz as I always work on 1 at the rear = 5 up front
also a good start I use to check is 27% of the wing core, I will check on mine as I will be doing the CofG very soon.
Cheers

Wayne,

We removed the servos and still need 70oz. I have spoken will several other Warbird guys. The thinking is that the CG can't be that far off. All the tread indicates 12-13 cm I pilot that maidens my plane and I came up with a starting point.
I' going to put 16oz in the nose. Put a " beat up" spinner and a wood prop on it ( this saves the 4 blade spinner and prop from damage) and see what happens on a straight taxi and take off. If the plane jumps straight up, it's still tail heavy.
Hopefully we due this test and we can adjust from there. I ran into a similair problem when I put a G62 in a H9 P-47 150 designed for a 30cc. In that case it was very nose heavy. I put 1.5 pound in the tail to balance it. Took it to the field to fly and it was way to tail heavy. We took all the weight out of the tail ( making the plane very nose heavy) and it flies like a dream! I have balance many Warbirds, these are the only two to give me fits. Funny they both have elliptical wings. Both plane were designed for smaller engines than I installed. Well that's what make the hobby interesting.

Hi Chris,
there is quite a lot of different advice on the CofG which span from 114 -160mm from LE.
All flying one guy has flown at 155mm and is happy.
I think 130mm may be a start, I shall see what 27% is and take a look.
Cheers

Wayne, That range is good news. With 16oz in nose I balanced it at 150mm. I look forward to hear what you encounter.

Hi Chris,

I am at the moment at 140mm with 16oz upfront, I am thinking of changing the two AA 5 cell Batts to 5 cell Sub C's, I already have a 4 cell Sub C for the Ing. I think I will be happy to maiden on 120mm.

So did some more work on her to be honest there is not much to report as this Kit just goes together and no horrible's to highlight.

Any feed back from people who have one of these and what they have would be great.

Cheers
Wayne

Ok so I have now got the Spitfire to the test stage now.
C of G is set at 122mm from LE, I have chosen this as from trawling through many threads on what others have used and flown from 114-160mm I have added 2Lbs of weight up front to have it balanced bringing the All Up weight to 20lbs dry.
I have ran up the motor (DLE30cc) and there is a lot of power so now just need to get to the field
Will let you know
Cheers

Test flight completed today and massive smile upon ones face.

Will post video soon but have some stills to add.
So with be the CofG set to 122mm from LE she flys great you could try a little further back but I am not bothering as she was so steady in flight. Very smooth on take off she just came up very nice.
We tested the stall, well eventually thought she would never go. Eventually the nose just gently dropped and she went no wing tip dropped at all.
A lot of interest from club members and all commented on such a smooth test flight well done Sam.
We used all the fuel up in the tank think we were up so will be adding a bigger fuel tank than the one supplied.
So all in all a very nice WarBird.

Glad your flight went well. Just ran my engine last week. Test flight to follow in June. I use a 22oz Roto-flow tank. J&Lpowerproducts.

Default YT Internatinal 81" Fully Comp Mk9 Spitfire Maiden Flight

Hi Guys,

Sorry its take a bit but here we go with the Maiden flight vids.

Motor was running a little rich of the flight but as you can see, she flew great and very smooth indeed.

The CofG was set at 120mm from LE I am going to leave mine here as she felt very balanced in flight the nose did not pitch down in inverted flight.
Hope you like the video's Test flight was carried out by my son Sam Cox so I could do video plus he's a much better flyer than me.

Cheers
Wayne
