Stock wing before modification, note the Sierra gear alignment is about 10mm back from aligning with the wing skin

Fast FWD to the new rib doubler and the carbon fiber, check fit before resin

Ignore the attached photo its not mine

Two layers of the carbon on the wing inner skin and one between the ribs. This is a special weave that has 12K and 6K in an open pattern, experimental fabric sample.

After curing the wing skin is now very strong. You can push on the outside and there is no flex over this area as expected.

This side is done with resin and rails

Wing update - this is the wing retract air system. Its integrated into the left wing next to the center root rib. The air tanks will be in the wing also.

Hey Chris. Nice work. I am at this spot in my build. Would love to do the same with the flaps and ailerons. Can you show a few pics of the inside and the linkage you used? I would love to keep it as concealed as possible. This looks awesome.
Thanks Jon

You can't get enough of these German birds can you Evan! Very cool. You'll love the Kolm, works of art! Mine sat for over a year, and started on the first try with the onboard starter... Sound isn't quite as good as a Moki, but close!

Nice project. My brother and I have some parts of this CARF in order to develop a gun system for it, as we have for the Corsair. Now all we need is the time.

Thanks Jon,

i placed the the servo as far forward as I could which ends up next to the spar. The rib and the spar help box in the servos. Then the linkage is attached to the servo horn and it ends up coming out as you see, pretty low and further back at the TE. On the surfaces the horns are epoxied keeping in mind the center of the hinge pivot. I used a t-pin thru the lowest hole to set the height while it cured.

I'll take a couple of pics of the servo pockets for you.

Chris, nice project, will follow with interest. We had a fellow from CA at our annual Winter Warbirds in Phoenix and brought his very large Cessna 182 ARF (can't remember the manufacturer) with a KOLM 155 V2 w/starter in it. Very sweet. When you get a chance, check the TF Corsair Mod thread, I left you a couple of questions. Also, I have a friend here the Pheonix area that is building the CARF P-51. John

I'm picking this back here soon it's just been very cold to work effectively both for me and for epoxy.
More soon!

Col John, That Cessna with the Kolm was the Timmy kit 120" with the 120cc Boxer. My Mustang was the great grandfather of Chris's kit. It is an old Fiberclassics Version 1 with a 2 piece fuse (UGH). I bought it cheap, but that is because nothing fit and joining the fuse was a nightmare. But it is coming along now, all the CARF parts fit my plane, I bought the new gear doors, flaps, wingtube, canopy frame and canopy. They all made my build easier. I should have bought the rudder also. I have the DA 100i for power

Default Starting up again...

picked back up the other day so here's the progress...

Mmmk, photos not loading...

I cut the back of the fuse and made an all in one radio and retract tray behind the radiator exhaust. I've cut the carbon fiber longerons and I'm ready to bond them. I'm still figuring out the elevator servo situation but the tail wheel and rudder servo will be on the tray.

Photos asap

Tail photo shows the taped outline of the hatch to be cut. I use a Zona razor saw which is fine and makes very clean cuts especially in this composite material.

More photos soon. Earlier tonight I managed to epoxy the first of two longerons. I sanded the inner surfaces first to give the epoxy something to bite to. The carbon longerons are full length from the firewall to the tail with a layer FG cloth on top. This will increase fuselage strength especially around the wing saddle at the narrowest part.

Its got a ZDZ 100 in it. Pain in the ass, I thought it would be easier than the Kolm... having second thoughts. LOL I designed and printed machine guns for the Mustang. Been using the 3D printer for a lot of things. Used it to make the servo mounts for the flaps and ailerons as well.

Hey those guns turned out really well, can I buy a set from you?

The ZDZ100, hmmm I'd have to see it in person to see what your up against.
Kolm updated the firewall install kit so now before I commit to the installation I'm going to just design my own anyway.

The ignition wires are too short, using keleo scale exhaust, have to use a set screw to put the spark caps on and you have to turn them to get the motor in... just annoying.

I'll send you a set, email me your address...
