I'm using 4-40 rods along with Dubro large scale T horns and E/Z connects. A bit overkill but I don't think the stock hardware is up the task, especially if you opt for a high powered motor up front.

I do not follow your logic. Why do you beef everything up then use E/Z connectors and only three screws in the control horn?

Agreed. EZ connectors are unacceptable for gas installations. Soldered clevis' are the way to go.

yea i understand the servos. but it says 8-9 channels. those are two different things. servos will be at a minimum 10 to me. but i wonder where the extra channel is coming from?

if you plug each servo into its own port perhaps?

i cant wrap my head around that. because each port, ie in my case 1-7/b are all controlled by separate switches, so that cant make sense, thats why im confused. it cant be this difficult. i will be following your thread more and see how you like the plane and most likely end up with one, if i can sneak some funds away from the wedding planning

Does your radio allow switch/channel assignments? It would simplify the installation.

with mixing yes, but no need to, when you tell it dual elevators and the like it automatically tags channels together, no need to change switches for flight surfaces.

Would love to see somebody mount a Rimfire 50cc with 12S Lipos on this plane. Attached is a picture of an ESM Bearcat 72" wingspan. It's got an EFlite 160 motor with 10S Lipo. Had trouble balancing until I tried mounting the Lipos on the firewall. Balance came out perfect ... no lead needed. A really nice flying plane.

At the time that picture was taken, I did have to remove the prop and cowl before every flight. But I have since modified the cowl and added a hinged access panel on top of the cowl. Now the batteries just slip in - so I can leave the cowl and prop permanently attached to the plane.

My set up is electric so I don't have the vibration concerns to which you refer. Admitedly all my planes are electric but I can still say I've never had an E/Z connector let go. I also have a habit of using Locktite.

pkoury - the horn bases and backplates are very rigid and the screws are M3's. With three screws installed they're still at least 2-3X stronger than the stock hardware.

I've mounted up a Dualsky GA6000.8 which is a 60cc equivalent. I'll be running 12S with two 5000's in the battery tray.

Didnt get as far as I had hoped this weekend, but got some little stuff done, all control horns screwed and glued in place,

Inner gear doors in place (forgot the pic, will get one with wings on this week)

Added a support to the rudder linkage, this stiffened it up ALOT, without it had a fair amount of flex/slop.

Tail cone on.

Made patches for the gap in front of the horizontal from the spare covering sheet.

Painted the LG legs white, didnt have the tape to do the wheels yet, thatll be tonight, then I can finish the gear and glue on the doors finally.

Whats left? Im going to get some bolts and blind nuts for the cowl, it has you just screw it into wood, but I think with the little gasser I need a little more hold power.

Fuel tank, Setup the radio and the gear sequencer, cut exhaust holes in the cowl, and it will need some clearance for the plug cap, prelim balance to see where the batteries and regs will live.

Little mid week update, doing the tedious little things that take time and show little progress

Finished up the retracts, the white gear and wheels look awesome, doors are glued on, a note, under the retracts they have little strength webs that will hit the wood mounts, so you should clearance the wood so they sit down proper.

Getting the cowl trimmed, I know the ratio is huge for airflow, but starting to do a series of holes so there isnt one massive barn door cut in it, not done yet, but it will not be super visible in the air this way. The dummy motor will serve as a baffle and be open at the bottom where the engine head is.

Hoping for a weekend maiden, its supposed to get hot here again, and that usually brings the wind, so we will see! Excited to hear it come to life!

Pretty sure I have the sequencer timed right too, once its all together Ill final check that, get the fuel tank installed ( gas stopper should be here today so I can complete the tank)

You may need more air exit to keep it cool, especially in hot weather

I Found your Youtube on this plane and thought I would follow your progress in this project. I have a few questions .First I'm not a big fan of plastic retracts I was wondering how well they are going to hold-up to the task at hand? Could you tell me the length of the struts you are using ? And the tailwheel do you think you could install a retract tailwheel easily or would you have to chop up the tail to much?

Hey local! The gear hold up to their 80" dauntless, so Im assuming they will do fine. They feel well built to me.

Id have to measure them.

I think its possible for a retractable tail wheel, I dont know how the balance is without one yet, so Ill report on that tomorrow hopefully. I dont think youd have to chop it up too bad. The hardest part will be matching the covering.

Got a bunch done last night,
- installed the switch and regulator for the ignition,
- fuel tank is in and done,
- put 4-40 screws and blind nuts for the cowl hold on screws, opened up the holes a little more and installed cowl
- inner gear doors adjusted, will have to install wings for final adjustment check

So when the wife gets home Im ready for a weight and balance to see where the batteries will live and if any extra weight is required. Its so close! Fingers crossed I can get it buttoned up tonight and it may fly this weekend!

Just helped a friend assemble on of these. Overall a nice plane and something I would definitely own. I personally didn't like the hardware at all. His was all set to go yestreday when one of the retracts stopped working. Real bummer
