The reason I asked was I wondered if a 55cc engine might have been a better choice? Assuming the firewall was strong enough and there was clearance for a 22 inch prop. (Or a 20 inch 4-blade.)

Maybe. I'll have an exact number soon. Stores are closed here on Sunday to go buy weights.

Seems that putting a DLE55RA and maybe another feature like EME Autostart would solve the problem without just adding dead weight. My thinking is better to add features of preformance in wieght than dead wieght. But this is the problem with short nosed fighters.......................................... ........................

Does the 35cc engine cylinder project very far out of the cowl?

So, with a 55 you would have additional weight up front, and the head fins would be out in the breeze.

a 55 with electric start would be pretty cool, and a heavier 4 blade prop!

Ok, went to bellingham and bought 1/4" solid lead, got that all zip tied onto the firewall, need to assemble for a final time and do a gear swing check to get the inner doors completed, then I can put in the fuel tank and cover up that servo. I have all the wiring done, I think its all done other than double checking the inner door servo and the balance, see how much it will really need! Ofcourse it started raining, and I have no room inside to do it properly, so Ill finish that after work tomorrow, or tonight after the kid goes to sleep.

You know the EME autostart will fit on a DLE35RA .........Here is a Youtube of one fitted on a Hanger 9 Beaver which is about the cowl diameter as your Bearcat. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=998wXEOqMJs

DLE 55ra is about 500g heavier with muffler and everything, and about .5 inches taller and longer. I dont see any downsides here. I want to know his AUW with the 3.5lbs of ballast before I buy one! any idea on the shipping charges?

I did weigh it in pieces last night, the total combined weight was right at 20lbs RTF, But Ill confirm that tonight after I see how much weight I can take back off, need to put it together outside for the final W&B check.

Specs:Total Weight - EME 35cc starter 19oz. (19 oz.) Controller (2 oz.) and the Lipo between 3.5 oz. & 4 oz. give or take 1.5 pounds ,Most of this weight a little over a pound would be as far forward as possible just behind the prop. Here is a web site that sells the EME autostarter http://www.milehighrc.com/EME_E_Start_30_35.html

You are definitely running heavy according to the spec's of the plane. I wonder how the retract are going to handle the extra weight if you need to change out the retracts you might look at this one from RC Aerodyne all medal says it supports up to 22 pounds but I believe it would handle more weight with no problem and it is a local company for you and I based in Kent Wa.shipped to you for about
$161.06.here is a web page and a youtube of the retract showing the innerworking of ithttp://www.scaleflying.com/Electric-Retracts-60-120-size-90-Degree-Pair_p_2881.html

I dont see any way to lighten it up, that just has to be what it is. Not sure how the factory got their number. I didnt add hardly any tail weight.

More often than not I see that's what you get with planes from overseas. No worries just more forward and kept in mind that you need to kept the landing as smooth as you can until you find out just what the durability of everything ends up to be.As it is now I will undoutidly go with a DLE55RA with EME Autostart and maybe jump up to a next size retracts and a retact tailwheel .Here are the things I think I would order for this bird ...The sound card is a exstra but it is amazing to hear a P&W Double Wasp sound in the air in addition it has a machine gun and a clear prop auido track too............................................... .................................................. .................................................. .............................................

I don't see a wing area listed, but based on the wingspan, if the wing shape is fairly close to scale the wing should yield close to 1260 sq."
Wing loading at 20# would be 36.6 oz/sq' , Cubic loading at 20# would be about 13. With those flaps, landings should be uneventful.
Interested to see how much ballast your model with the 35ra requires, if it is at least 20oz, the 55ra would not increase AUW of the plane.

Throws, rates and servos are set, my gear door sequencer isnt listening to me, but Ill try some other methods to make them work.. But the bear is balanced, and the DLE35RA runs like a watch! Now I have to suffer through another day of work before I can play with it again.

I predict that you will have a very successful test flight. WW 2 radial fighters have been some of the best flying models I have flown. Please keep us posted!
