A few follow up notes

I think I have most things documented in these build threads,

Couple things I didn't add yet, is I put the flight batteries in the compartment with the inner door servo, the ignition battery is by the front of the fuel tank.

Inner door servo, may want to use a retract servo, I just made a longer arm for a normal servo to get the throw I needed.

Gear doors, I did have to cut and sand a fair bit on the stand offs that go onto the gear legs that hold them on to get them to suck up close to the wing, you can only get so close because it still has to clear the tire. I put a wheel collar on the outside of the wheel instead of using the E clip.

On the control horns I cut away covering under them and glued them do the wood, screwed them in place, then put a 3rd screw right at the back into the wood. I also went with Z bends at the flight control servos to eliminate the little adjustable linkage things, then I silver soldered the screw on clevices when I got it all setup.

Beef up the rudder linkage as I have in the pics and these threads, takes all the slop out.

The two included canopy bolts were too short to work on mine, so I found some longer ones that worked.

I used digital metal geared servos with 147oz of torque at 6v
Turnigy 620DMG+HS
Im impressed with them, affordable, center perfectly on all of mine (7 of them) and so far I would recommend them.

Throttle pushrod I used some rod I had laying around, the plane came with a small rod and a plastic tube to use if you wanted to. I just try to eliminate metal touching the motor, so I used my other method.

This CA or add a little glue of some sort to the cowl mounts, and to important areas of the plane, for peace of mind.

In the video you can see my inner doors are not 100% open, my sequencer didnt work good enough to trust so I simply Y'd them into the flaps, Ill get that sorted out later with a new sequencer.

I think that covers it, Ill check my notes later. Enjoy!

Tinkered checking it over last night, everything is still secure from the maiden, topped off the batteries, hope to get it in the air soon again. Anyone else flying one yet? PIcs? Vids?

In hindsight, would you now consider a 55cc as a viable option, given the balance weight necessary? I think it would look great with a 20x10 4-blade with a 55 turning it.

Does the bearcat need more power? Nope! I fly around most the time about half to 5/8 throttle. Full throttle for take off and vertical. I am at sea level though, not sure what a 4000' msl field would be like. But hey, why not replace weight with something you can use I would love a radial on here. Maybe the vvrc 40cc twin!

A friend of mine from Kansas is going to assemble one with a 3-cylinder, 60cc engine and use a 4-blade prop. Should be impressive.

John, I received the Biela 19x8 4 blade prop today. I'm going to test it on the P-47 tomorrow and see if it will work with the FG60. If it flys the Jug it should really pull the Bearcat around.

Is there a downside to using the E clip?

I recieved the Biela 19x8 4 blade prop yesterday and installed it on the FG60 in my TF P-47 in order to see how it would perform. The comparison prop is an Aerosport 22x10 2 blade wood prop. The weather today was perfect...65 degrees and light wind.

Here are the performance numbers with the 2 blade prop:
max static rpm = 6300; idle rpm = 1600-1700 (not steady and on the verge of stopping); max temp in flight 117C. Flight speed and vertical performance are very good....big loops, rolls, spins, etc are easy. Most fun you can have with your clothes on.

With the 4 blade prop:
max static rpm = 6100; idle rpm = 1200 (very steady and solid); max temp in flight = 129C. Flight performance was just barely adequate. The engine did not pick up rpm in flight even in a dive. Barely able to do a loop. Speed much slower (15-20 mph) than before. Not much fun.

How will this translate to the Bearcat? I'm hoping that the lighter, smaller Bearcat will work better with the 4 blade prop. The P-47 weighs 22 lbs and is 85" span. The Bearcat should come in under 20 lbs and the airframe should have less drag.

I had an "incident" that required me to remove the FG60 from the P-47, so I went ahead and installed it in the Bearcat.

My DLE 55 with factory muffler turns the 20x10x4 at 6K on the ground. Flies the Tarheel Hal with enthusiasm. Would you like to try it?

Can you define the word "incident" regarding your nice, kit-built P-47?

The exhaust system broke and hot exhaust gas burned through an ignition wire. I had to deadstick the plane. Minor damage to belly.

I'm using a 19x8x4 and the engine is just barely able to handle it. The 20x10x4 would be way too much prop for it. The 19x8 tachs 6100 rpm on the ground but doesn't seem to increase rpm much in the air.

I've always equated 4-stroke engines with torque rather than r.p.m. You don't think it would handle the extra load?

I don't think so. Another guy tried a 20x10x4 on his FG60 and it didn't work: https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show...&postcount=205
