Default Prop for H9 P-47 150

I just about have this plane ready to fly. Some rearranging of the radio gear and some new cables, adjustment of linkages, throws and balance and it is ready to go. I have a DLE 30 on it with an 18" prop. Looks a little small for the plane, so was wondering what would be a correct prop size for the motor plane combo? I ran up the engine today, and it lifts the tail at half throttle when on the stand with full up elevator, so I had to strap it down. I dont want a speed demon, but still want to be able to pull up and away if I need to.

First flew mine with a Zenoah G38/Mejzlik 18x10 with the original covering, 19.5 lbs. Later striped the covering and glassed/painted it and upgraded to Zenoah G45/Mejzlik 20x10.

I think the DLE 30 will fly it but It will be marginal on power. I'd go with an 18x10 prop.

18 x 8

Prop size is driven first by engine size/power, not the airframe.

A 1.5 is recommended for that pane and the G38 is 2.3 cubic inches. According to Horizon Hobby the G38 turns 7100 to 7400 with an 18X10. The numbers add up. Check back after the maiden. Dan

He has the DLE30, 1.86 cu.in. per the DLE manual and 18 x 8, 18 x 10, 19 x 8 or 20 x 8 recommended. Mine flew well with the G38. I would expect the DLE 30 to fly it okay but If you want to fly with real authority then go up to the 45cc -50cc.

If it survives this season then a DA50 is in the works with a 20x10 3 blade. That motor would cost as much as I spent on the airframe and DLE together.
