Help me identify this Mustang
Hello, I was given a few planes recently and have a fiberglass fuse foam wing Mustang which I really like and will restore. I would like to know what it is The span is61" and the fuse length from the rudder hinge line to nose is44 7/8. Thanks for your help..

Looks to me like one of our P-51D kits. My wife, Martha, and I produced a fiberglass and form kit back in the 70's. Our company name was Fliteglas Models. We sold the company in 1981 to Bob Dively Models. He did not continue selling the P-51D very only after that. The wing span was 64" instead of 61". I won the 1978 Sport Scale at the Nats in Lake Charles, Louisiana with our P-51D. Frank Baker designed the model to fly in pattern competition.

You should change the aileron to servo linkage. The way it is allows the ailerons to lower different amounts on each side. Use to Kwick links that join at the servo wheel rather than the "Y". The "Y" will flex.

Thanks Ralph, I remember Fliteglass models. Never had one though. Looking at your profile pics of the Mustang the profile looks right, you must be the only one who got the canopy right! I have a Saito 100 or an OS .91 available to use, what would recommend? Of course I will re-do the flap linkage and take a close look at the ailerons. I also need to make a lower cowl for the plane. thanks again, John.

I flew my P-51D's with a Bluehead Super Trigre .60. I believe either of the 4-cycles you have would work. They may be a little harder to get into the cowl. I would use the lighter of the two. Just be sure to balance the plane so it is not tail heavy. Nose heavy it will fly and land fast, tail heavy it will snap when slowed down to much. I can't remember the CG location but if you need it let me know and I'll try to find it. Never try to stretch the landing with up elevator, use throttle control.
