Wasn't the Top Flite Mustang giant designed to use an old-style 41 cc gas engine? A 32cc glow supertiger will certainly outperform that!

I know. In review of performance, the ST3250 out turns the US 41cc engine by 1000 rpm on any given propeller.

Performance wise the Moki will turn about 500-600 rpm more at a minimum on the same prop, add the tuned pipe and you probably get more. The ST engines run on less oil than the Moki and I have always found them easier to tune and run on 5% than on higher nitro fuel. The Moki is not very much smaller or lighter than the 4500 and uses more fuel per minute. The one advantage the 3250 has is it is much better on fuel economy than the Moki. My 2.1 Moki gets maybe 8-9 minutes on 32 oz. and wants 15% nitro and 18% oil. That's why it has more power. I do agree that the 4500 is on the big side for the 51, more suited to the 47 or Corsair. It hauls 30LBS around with authority! There is not really a good glow engine for the 51, but I have seen the big Saito 220 four stroke fly them well. I would suggest a glow converted gas engine or if you can find one, the old webra bully on glow. It is a 35cc and has a lot of power.

PS. I fly at 5,000 feet so we do tend to need more power than at lower elevations, we use the G-62 in the 51, mostly cause we like fast airplanes. A DA 50 gives adequate performance at this altitude.

Thanks for your comments. Looks like I may be able to go the gas engine route afterall. In doing research, I am finding out both Coleman Fuel and AVGAS do not have the offensive odor of gasoline. I have a small airport near me that will sell me Avgas for $4.77/gallon. I am going to buy some and take a "sniff." This would be great if it will work as I am very tired of cleaning the oil off my planes after every flight. I am sorry the several times before I tried to go with gas engines, I had no idea about AVGAS or Coleman Fuel.

Have you ever used either of these fuels?

By the way, I just sold the 4500 on Ebay, almost instantly!

I run avgas in my gassers.. it will be fine.. two strokes ran for a long time on leaded gasoline.. the compression on most of our model engines is higher than full size aircraft engines and the lead will pass on through.. Get a gallon and try it in your lawn mower and see how you do with the smell/fumes... Otherwise i have had both the big Mokis and Tigers... i would put the 3250 in the mustang.. my mokis seemed to drink more fuel... i seem to recall 5 flights per gallon on the last one i had.. Never had any issues with oil/nitro etc... 10% red max and a fox idle bar plug and they all ran perfect for me..

I have never used either but we have had some guys try both. Colman fuel is basically what used to be called "White Gas" It has an octane rating of around 50. It does work and it doesn't have that gas smell but performance wise it isn't as good as regular gas and does run hotter. Avgas uses lead to boost the octane up and doesn't contain ethanol and other ingredients which may be what makes you sick. You may be able to find "Pure Gas" in your area which doesn't have the ethanol in it or you can do what one of our members does which is mix regular gas with water in a plastic jug you can see through. Shake it up and let it sit for awhile and the water will separate and become cloudy. What it does is absorb the ethanol out of the gas and when you pour off the water you are left with basically pure gas. Sounds silly but it works and is a lot cheaper than avgas. If it is the extra stuff in regular that bothers you that will take care of it and it runs fine.

I wont use gas either, I had a ST 3000 in a 25 pound Pica Spitfire. The performance was ok but not great. I had a Moki 180 in a 20 pound Yellow P-47. It had pretty good power but was hard to start as it was inverted. I replaced it with a Saito 2.20 and it is great now. I think if you can turn a 20x8 at 8000 rpm you will be fine. I dont know if the ST 3250 will do it. The 4500 might be a good choice as you might need nose weight anyway.

Gentlemen,I have 2 TFGS P51's and have Moki 210's in them using 0 nitro and synthetic oil.I don't have any lead in them they bal right on the money.I love the Moki's great engine.Been flying them for about 15 yrs.Also they fit in the cowl very nicely.

Are you saying your Moki 2.10 uses more fuel than the Super Tigre 4500?
