Looks good, though I am waiting to see it completed, ready to fly and read a post-flight report

Hey mine looks just like that, not a wrinkle one. I noticed the cowl was a little thin also.

Karl, I’m thinking the cowl will become stiffer when the cowl ring is attached.

The cowl on the giant Corsair was flimsy as well til the internal structure was added.

Could the Saito FG 84/90 engine fit in the cowl without cutting holes through it?

I confirmed with the person that would know, and no that engine won't fit.

I was very fortunate to be the person who won this airplane at Toledo and I just took delivery of it last week.

Yes, When they notified me that I had won it I thought it was a scam. I am just not sure if I want to build it or maybe just sell it. I can't seem to find retracts for it and all of the sites I have went to show the recommended retracts on back order or no longer available. Robart doesn't even list retracts for it and they are who TF recommends. The manual suggests the DLE .61 but this thing needs a radial. After reading this thread it is clear the FG 90 will not fit inside the cowl. The FG 60 seems like the next best choice I suppose.

Sweet. I did my training with VP 31 at Moffett Field. I was down at Jax a couple of years ago.. heard they phased out the Orion completely. I was up at Whidbey Island a few weeks ago, they still have a couple of squadrons operating it I heard. At Boeing Field in Seattle they had 4 P-8's on their flight line being outfitted. The P8 is a nice looking airplane but when God designed the P-3, he was paying close attention to his work that day.

All the newer TF ARF'S use proprietary Robart retracts sold only through Tower or I guess Horizon now. It was that way for the Zero and the FW190. You can get parts, for the gear, direct from Robart.

Tower has them but they are back ordered. As to powerplants, it would appear the Evolution 77 CC 7 cylinder radial would fit inside the cowl. It is glow powered which is OK with me as I have not switched any of my planes to gas. Any thoughts on this engine other than the cost of glow fuel compared to gas?

Saw one yesterday in person, brand new just opened kit.

Seems very well built and I like the covering job. He has me slotted to do the maiden for him and I'm really looking forward to it. Power is a DLE61 with Jtech Pitts muffler and Spektrum DX-18

The hobby shop used their login and saw the gear availability was listed as 9/2 so while behind they should be in stock soon, he pre-ordered those.

Bill,

ive got the Evo 7-77 installed on the H9 Corsair. I’ll measure it and match the measurements to the Hellcat cowl

Thank you sir! I had listed this ARF locally and have had no takers thus far so it looks like I am going to build it. I am crossing my fingers the EVO 77CC works. According to the measurements on the engine's user manual (9.1 in diameter and 7.9 in length) and the cowl measurement diagram posted above it should fit but I am going to wait to hear what you find out before I order it.

Bill,

BLUF doesn’t look like the 7-77 will fit.

The trust washer will need to be about 3” back from the front of the cowl. The Corsair cowl measures 9 3/4” when measured 3” back from the front of the cowl. This is just enough room for the rockers on the 7-77 to move w/o interference.

The Hellcat cowl measures about 8 3/4” when measured 3”” back from the front of the cowl. From my perspective, that won’t be enough room.

i was hoping the 7-77 would also fit. But alas, it won’t.

Regards Bill

so I suppose that leaves the Saito 60 for the only radial option. At this point maybe I just put the DLE .61 in it and save the money for another project.

What about moving the cowl 3 inches forward on the fuselage?

dumb question.. that wont work either.

Or the EME60 with the auto start would be sweet.
