New Giant Top Flite F6F Hellcat coming soon?
#201
I have MANY found memories when I lived in the Fort...Miss working at Phil's (and Phil RIP), flying at the glider site, Flying Circuits and the BIG small town atmosphere....as for what's in the water here....what water? We get about 8" of rain a YEAR, so we can fly anyday we want.
I too am putting a DLE 20 in mine also....just ordered the F4U struts for it .... like to put the tank lower in the fuse but I guess that space will have to be used for the ignition module and batteries.
Sorry for hiJacking this thread...

Hi, is anybody going to put the sierra retracts in this plane since the robarts are still not available ? Looks like the 100 degree F6F retracts are about the right size.

Tower Hobbies has the retract set in stock as well: https://www.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...=ROBTF150F6FCB Their price is $548.99 but they have a $35 savings with coupon code 011R3 (thru 11/30).

Thanks for the information on the retracts quist and Capt John. Much appreciated. Now just to decide if I want the Pneumatic or Electric ones. I am a bit nervous of the electric ones because I had an electric robart set for the Hanger 9 60cc Corsair (which are essentially the same design) which lasted a few cycles before stripping. Would still love to know if anybody is considering the Sierra Giant Scale ones ? I have mailed Sierra and am awaiting their response to see if they will fit.
BarracudaHockey it looks like Horizon have the electric ones in stock as well.

We have the Electrics in our P-47 and they have been a pain. Sometimes it takes 8 or 9 tries to get the get to wake up and come down. I don't like that.

Has anyone received the Robart Aluminum 5" wheels specifically made for the Hellcat? I was about to order them but there are no pictures of them except on the Robart page with the retracts. I love the look of them, but it says foam tires. Is this correct? Foam tires for $78 per wheel.

Hi everyone! Im about to pull the pin on this model and get one as a replacement for H9 Mustang I returned. This model deserves more than a single cylinder 2-Stroke Gasser. I see that it seems to be a solid "no" for the Saito FG-90R3, but any thoughts on what else might fit in the cowl and do a decent job of hauling it around aswell as a 60cc single 2-stroke? I'd really like to know if the saito FG-60R3 would be enough or if the Saito FG-61TS twin would fit in the cowl...soooo many questions lol Look forward to some insightful responses.

Well Santa is coming a few weeks early to my house this year and he's bringing a TF Hellcat with him.. The Byron is up for its 30 year service anyway so while I'm reworking the Byron I will be flying a new TF Hellcat. You can never have too many Hellcats can you. I can't decide on whether to use the G62 the Brison 4.2 or the PTE 72T twin. If the 72 twin will fit I may go with it because it has much more pull than the other choices. I will just have to wait and see ...

Good Afternoon,
Yesterday I was on Horizon's web sight and took a good look at the T.F. F6F. It had it listed for $999.99. So I told my self if its free shipping...I will do it. I was given a shipping quote of less then $11.00 and I live in Hawaii. To me I felt the shipping will be over $350 to $450.00, but it was only eleven bucks and bought the model.
I will go with Sierra pneumatic landing gear. Sierra sells a scale pneumatic tail wheel assy., as well as solid rotating landing gear. I've flown Sierra gear for years and I am amazed at its durability and are over built. I've used the Robert safety, low air system with good results. I was amazed at how well they preformed for me in the past, and use Robert for everything else. Sierra's for all three will set you back $700,00 plus shipping and I have the rest in house. If the wheels will fit that Robert sells and fit my Sierra gear, I will buy Robert wheels.
I am thinking of going with a RGCF 55 or 60cc gas engine. I may go with the DLE 61cc gas engine, but the RGCF is priced at only $289.00 (RGCF 55cc). I want to put an electric starter on this engine, I've done it with EME 35cc gas engines and loved it.
I will be repainting my model to WWII....U.S.S. Bunker Hill colors.
I would love a gas powered five cylinder radial to put into this model...but none are made that I know of anywhere. I'm done with Nitro...
Any suggestions are most welcome.

The RCGF 56 (@3.4 lbs) is the least expensive power plant for this build. It puts out more thrust then the model will weighs in at. RGCF claims 15.1kg and that reads out to 33.22 lbs. of thrust. Top Flight claims there F6F will tip the scales between, 24.7 & 27 lbs. So it very well have a nice vertical. The RGCF 60 (@3.57 lbs.)is a rear exhaust engine, puts out 17.2kg or 37.8 lbs. of thrust. $289.00 vs $409.00 for the 60.
DLE 55 side exhaust, cost $369.00, the DLE 55 RA , costs $419.00 w/ 14.5kg. pull, or 31.9 lbs. of pull. The DLE 61 (@4# 5 oz.)cost $449.00 w/ 15kgs of pull or 33 lbs. of pull.
Does anyone have any information on the RGCF 60cc single cylinder engine ? It looks like for the money...RCGF is my choice. I have run RCGF 20cc gas engine with superb results.
Any suggestions. .??????
The Cowl is 10" round...its a fraction of an inch larger then 10 inches...but 10" works fo me.

Mine came the other day and got to look at things today . The construction is good , the covering is good but the finish work under the covering is a little less quality than I hoped for. There are several places in the wing and fuse sheeting that could have been done alot better for what we are paying. Overall I'm pleased though . Everything from my Byron will move on over . The retracts fit perfectly and I am upgrading them to electrics with robart parts . The Brison 4.2 will go in after I freshen it up a bit . Now to get it done and flying so I can rework and repaint the Byron .

I've been lead to believe that RGCF 60 is not the best choice and folks have had issues with the engine. So I decided to go with an EME 60 with electric start. SDS Hobbies will sell you the engine, with electric start and Rx module for $ 483.16 shipped to Hawaii. This engine seems to have a good rap...so I will go with this EME 60cc with electric start. To be honest I wanted to go with a radial engine...but nome will fit the air frame. Bummer.....
My model arrived to me today and its one big box...!
