I put some more flight time on mine last Sunday . I removed the lip at the bottom roughly 1/4-3/8" at the lower portion. I have not hit rough enough for any compression of the springs yet. When I did a grass landing I could hear the grass hitting them as it went by.
One of the strut scissor's link bent under side load when taxing back to the pitts on the 4-5th flight ( dissapointment ) Being rectified asap. The plane is nowhere near as quick as friends 2blade gassers of the same size. But mine sounds "COOL" more scale and about 10lbs heavier. The 90 is still over temping after about 6min into the flight
Some say this is normal till its fully broken in, Im not sure I always try to keep the temps on 4stroke multi cylinders below 200f I am seeing 230f. So I climb pull back on power the glide down till the warnings quit. then keep going throttle consciously.
Love the door camber offset above ! Can you show how it is to operate?

yes it is....Morris James is going to be the distributor and service guy for UMS. He is also running all engines before releasing them for sale. I’ll post some pics when I get the engine in. UMS is doing some cool stuff to their engines and Morris will be coming out with a new engine line built by UMS

Horizon actually contracted UMS to build the evolution radials. The word is that Horizon offered no feedback to UMS regarding problems and would not allow changes to be made by UMS recommendations, so Horizon is ultimately dropping some or all of the evolution gas radials. Not sure about what the glow radials are doing with respect to Evo

A few other observations that may help others. Don't put masking tape near the decals! Using low stick masking tape, still pulled them up...
I saw that Dave (wingspar) had to do some surgery to get the Sierra tail wheel in, I think Darrell may have changed it??? Mine was easy. Just had to prop up the top attachment on about 3/8ths of ply. It was a pain to run those cables once the tailwheel is mounted! Main gear went in easy as well with a little kit that he sells with it. Way to go Darrell!
I made spacers to get the prop on the EME 70 about 3/16ths off the edge of the cowl. I just completely spaced the distance, if you need it, I can measure... I think it was 46mm.
My machine guns turned out well. :-).

You have Darrell's Sist, Platt Models 1/5 Scale FW190 Tail Retract. Not the same tail retract. By chance do you have pictures of the main retracts and the add on kit? Wondering what little kit he sales, as with mine I'm going to need two 1/4" shims of plywood to make my mains fit. I'm still waiting on replacement parts for bad parts that came in the kit from TopRC ( 6weeks and counting).

I maidened mine this weekend. First flight was almost the last... One of the ball links on ONE flap cracked and popped off when I brought the flaps down... good times ensued. Flipped over and was heading in, flipped the switch fast and got control of it again. Went to my local field that has a very short runway, instead of my normal field thats over 1000' long. So landing on a 400' unfamiliar runway with no flaps on a maiden wasn't pleasant. Cut the motor about 20' up and dead sticked it, crisis averted. :-)
I looked at the 40mm elevator throws and was very suspicious, so I dialed it back a bit, still not enough. I have it at about 15mm now and it feels normal. At 35mm or so, it felt like it was on crack or I had the CG wrong.
Put Dubro 4-40 HD ball links on everything and went back out the next day. Two perfect flights. I pulled the flaps back quite a bit as well, and it still lands super slow. The factory rec is almost 90 degrees...
So, plane is a keeper, I would suggest swapping out the ball links.... ;-)

Thanks for the posting. Any down trim on the elevator with flaps down? Also, did you reduce the aileron throws from recommended?

I put my elevator at about 20mm, also moved the aileron to about 25mm mid-rate. This is where it felt Good to me. Left the ailerons at 30 for high rate..
Also I added 30% Expo on elevator 25% on Aileron and 20 rudder. I have 13% of down elevator when flaps are at full deployment.

Mine has been sitting for the past month. With Zero luck or reply about getting a scissor link end, Guess I will have to contact Darrell at Sierra and drop another $700 on gear.

That 13% is what was added in by radio configuration. I took NO measurement from the stab/elevator itself.

You could be waiting forever. I had the TopRc Gear and sent them back. I kept the tail wheel. The main gear is just too flimsy for that airplane especially if it gets side loaded. Darrel's gear rock solid and looks 100% better.

Hi folks
Just found this thread and have enjoyed reading the various comments (and changes) that have been done to this kit. I received my FW190 in February and have the Robart gear "upgrade".... so I went searching for tips on installing the mains as they don's fit very well.... and here I am!
As noted, they bottom out on the top of the wing so as previously mentioned in this thread, I'll need to add some shim material. arghh! Stabs & Wing's done with the exception of the gear of course. I'll go through the pages and look for additional information.... some great stuff on here! Thanks everyone for posting!

Thanks
