Default TF P-47 .60ON THE WAY!! Electric vs dle 20cc???

Hey guys,
I have a TF P-47 .60 (kit) on the way. I was sold on a DLE 20cc and last night at my club meeting a member was trying to sell me on electric???
He was saying a lot of crashes are from motors stalling and electric wont stall!!!
So.... I am asking you guy with more experience what should I do. I am excited to start this model and want to proceed in the right direction!!!!

10 year-old T.F. P-47 arf with a DLE 20. Not a single crash at all, engine stalls included. Best prop is an APC 17x8N. Fast and reliable. Takes 2 minutes to refill its' tank versus and hour or so to recharge the battery.

I love the sound of the dle20cc also.
How are you filling the gas tank and size??? t fitting or dedicated fill hose?

T-fittings have been my choice for several years with no problems. Tank size is a 12 ounce, I believe. I install the largest tank that will fit.

I prefer the clean, quiet, reliable power that electric power systems provide. Some flyers complain that it's not loud enough but that's not a negative for me. Arranging the battery and ESC to provide the proper balance can be tricky however. For a .60-sized plane I would use a 6-cell Lipo, a 75-amp ESC, and an AXI 4120/18 motor (515 kV I think). I've been using AXI motors for years but there are other's that are cheaper and probably will work just fine. Hobby King sells ESC's and electric motors cheap.

I can charge the 6-cell Lipo in a half hour.

Your plane looks awesome. I was looking on eclac with a e flight 90 and 90 amp esc
  • Equivalent to or surpassing the power of a 90-size, 2-stroke, glow engine for sport and scale airplanes weighing 8 to 13 lb (3.6 to 5.9 kg)
  • Ideal for 3D airplanes weighing up to 10 lb (4.5 kg)
  • Ideal for models requiring up to 1800 watts of power
  • High torque, direct drive alternative to inrunner brushless motors
  • External rotor design for better cooling
  • High-quality construction with ball bearings and hardened 6mm steel shaft
  • Includes mount and mounting hardware with two 10mm prop shaft adapters tapped out for 8-32 threads
  • Slotted 14-pole outrunner design

Needed To Complete

6S–8S Li-Po or 18-26 Ni-MH /Ni-Cd

16x8 to 18x8 electric props

85A High Voltage Brushless ESC

Hopper tanks are usually a smaller tank placed between the main tank and the engine. Provides a more constant fuel flow but is usually used in a pressurized systems and glow engines. Gas engines are equipped with a pumper carb so a hopper tank would not work.

Lifer,, one reason why your engine runs so good is because of the longer prop (the majority of people would have a 16 inch prop on their DLE20), the larger prop gives more Flywheel effect /more momentum, and a smoother running engine,, a smaller prop that turned higher RPM would give the engine a better chance to loose it's flame.

The APC 17x8N prop is a very narrow blade, and it turns as fast as the APC 16x8 which is a much wider blade and has additional drag. The 17x8N is faster as well as quieter on a DLE 20.

The APC 17x8N prop is a very narrow blade,
never the less the longer prop produces more flywheel effect

Funny how guys criticize electric by saying it takes up to an hour to charge the battery. Hello, multiple batteries, no waiting!

Gas
Cheaper and more reliable all year round. Don’t have to manage expensive batteries or own several. Buy a gallon of gas, container and add oil then attach a hand crank pump. You’re into it for less than a battery pack and it will last all day, zero maintenance.

If you’re after power comparisons and money is no object then go electric. A brushless system will always make more torque and rpm than a gas or nitro engine if set up correctly. But, these high power systems can be hit or miss and less reliable depending on how they are set up and the quality of the components.

If youre looking to learn electrics then do it. Otherwise go gas for simplicity, reliability and economy.
