Its been done, use a Pitts style muffler from Bison or Slimline or something else. It will be a beast! I have the same engine and muffler for my TF P-40 and it's pretty compact.

No worries!
There is a guy that claims he put a DLE 85 in the P-47 but I never saw any photos of the installation. You can have a scale size 4 blade prop with that kind of power.

I built a TF P47 with a DLE61 about a year ago. I kept the standard side exhaust and canted the inverted engine to the 7 o'clock position so the exhaust comes out of the bottom of the cowl. At that angle it all fits inside the cowl nicely. The 61 spins a Falcon 24 x 9. Very happy with the plane and engine. Only 1 dead stick by running out of fuel - was having too much fun flying with a mates Pica Spitfire.

"Like a midget in a urinal I knew I had to stay on my toes.."

I always laugh when I read this tagline but...
Shouldn't he be "at" the urinal instead of in it?
Makes for sticky shoes.

Last Saturday I was pleased to see a DLE 61 in a TF P-47 ARF because the combination flying was like watching a pattern plane with military markings. The plane flew in a regional Scale Masters qualifying event.
So as far as I can tell I’d say this is a great combo.
I’m looking forward to my Corsair and P-40 flying with a 61!

Mine flys great with a DLE55 and an onboard start offsets the need for weight so I imagine a 61 would honk pretty good

My favorite was a post several years ago were a guy said he put a DA 100 in a TF P-51 He said it had plenty of power! and he did not care if both cylinders stuck out!
Around here, at 5,000 feet, we use G-62s but we had one guy put a Saito 60cc radial in one, flew like a dog and the engine self destructed. I have flown with someone who put a DLE 85 in the 47 ARF, he told me last month that it is only a matter of time before the plane explodes in the air, it shakes so bad. So it seems that the DLE 60 would be a good choice, you could go with an EME 60 and a self starter which would really be awsome!
