Been hanging from my living room ceiling for 10 years.
BVM F-86 sabre version 1. 63" with BVM gear.
Bought it about 15 years ago. Whoever built it, did a really nice job: tight fit on moving surfaces and appears to be base coat/clear coat.
Lots of rivet decals were used.

Modeled after Major John Glenn's plane.

Still has the original glow engine for power. Can go electric or turbine.

Huge storage bins.

Earthen dam just west of Indianapolis.

Bypassing Chicago, I take I-74 to rt 47 which is, mostly, straight as an arrow.

With all the cool wet weather, crops are way behind in growth.

Road Trips: 2009.
Thought I'd look to see when I started recording these trips.
Hard to believe it's been that long ago!
Also, hard to believe our appearance has changed!

Sam,
Great pics from Windy City I had planned to come down as a spectator on Friday but I had something come up at work that needed to be done.
Saw some of my flying buddies in the pics though.
Thanks for posting.

TF kit F6F Hellcat PM.
Got two more flights in Tuesday night at the club meeting.

Added a 2nd battery and switch; per the usual 2 batteries per receiver.

Painted the switches to 'kind of' match the original paint.
The original owner put the bind outlet next to the switch.

Added some air tubing over the antennas.

The nut to hold the air valve came off. Some elmers glue to secure nut.

Tail feather protectors to prevent trailer hanger rash and me bumping into things!

Got two more flights on the TF kit hellcat while at the local field.
Ran out of gas at 7 minutes. Landed OK. Will need to install larger tank.
Noticed the motor has no right thrust input so that will also be changed.

Only two other scale planes at the field.

Scratch built from own plans.

PM the TF hellcat.

A 20 oz tank replaces the 16 oz tank.

With the way the front was constructed, not much room for a large tank.

'Stopper' assembled.

Clunk, etc assembled.

Hex screw subbed for the phillips screw.

Had to remove center ply wall to fit new tank.
Put batteries in each side slot.

Put two fender washers on the left side.
Ordered a couple spare 22C10 Xoar props: those are getting hard to find!

July 6, Celina, Ohio general flyin by Celina flying sportmen.
miles: 102
A nice 600' grass runway but my flying was 'short lived'!

I got there and opened the trailer and the TF F4U fell off the shelf, hanging by a bungee cord and broke the tip of the left elevator.
Next, my TF kit Hellcat gets a dead stick just after taking off.

Needing to get these fixed before Wednesday for the Goshen, Indiana flyin, I left after 'packing up'.

TF Hellcat.
The plane glided about 400' away in a farmers field. Fortunately, gear up and able to land on it's belly.
The glued on belly pan was broken from the wing and the bottom was beat up.

Used thin and thick CA to get all the small cracks but had to cut away the large area and put new stringers and sheeting on the belly pan.

The bottom of the fuse behind the wing was also damaged. I cut away the FG which surprised me as it came off easily. The builder must use a water base versus Zap finishing resin!

After pushing all the balsa sheeting into a relatively flat surface, I soaked the sheeting with thin CA.

Two ounce glassing and finishing resin used.
Can't see but about 5 pieces of FG cloth applied over weak areas.
Once dry, some easy sand will be used to smooth out the surface.

One piece of FG on the bottom of the fuse.

A thin sheeting on the fire wall was, also, replaced.

Hanger rash to the TF Corsair.
The left elevator got damaged.

Cut away the monocote and applied some 1/16" think balsa sheeting perpendicular to the elevator sheeting to the inside damaged area and used some 1/64" thick ply to secure the outer damaged area.

Repairing TF Hellcat and Corsair.

Added easy sand and glazing compound to smooth out the imperfections.

Sprayed on my two part auto primer.

Corsair done with the ugly monocote. Maybe, one day, I'll stripe and glass it. Probably not. Got a Ziroli F4U in the bones that will probably get first 'treatment' after I finish the Z P-47.

Hellcat about finished.

Cause of engine failure on take off: The new tank I used had a stopper for glow fuel and I didn't realize it. The black stopper disintegrated.

Spray painted the belly pan.

Added spray foam so it won't be so vulnerable.

Put belly pan on wing and added weights while the foam cures so the foam will conform to the wing.

The bottom of the fuse was also spray painted using some old water base colors from previous planes. Not an exact match but close enough for the bottom. Besides, it'll look like a 'field repair'.
The belly pan will probably not show the different shade of gray/white since it meets the wing at a sharp angle.
